Sean Booker, 35, died in the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. Imagine his widow's shock and horror when she received notification in the mail that her late husband had received a traffic ticket on May 5, 2002 in Tarboro, North Carolina. How? Identity theft.

Sharon Booker immediately notified authorities, and police have identified a suspect, Anthony Andrew Fernandez, a.k.a. Leslie Patrick Cumberbatch, reports The Associated Press. But they haven't been able to catch him. They do know this: He is in the United States illegally after being deported to his native Guyana in 1998 following a drug charge. Police do not know when he re-entered the country. They suspect someone found Booker's driver's license in the World Trade Center rubble and then sold it. "If he found Sean's license, I want it back," Sharon Booker told The Sunday Star-Ledger of Newark. "It makes me feel awful to think that he might have something of Sean's." AP reports that Fernandez has been charged with financial-identity crime, which is a felony.

    That is so sad.

Imagine the damage this fool and others can do with the info on that license. (I'm not trying to give anyone ideas).

That is disgusting to dig through rubble and get info/stuff.

    Some people ;-(

I believe I heard on CNN that there were a number of people who were arrested and charged for stealing personal effects from the WTC site, so you know that vultures are caught but never all of them. This makes me so angry people wanting to make a profit off the misery of others.

THAT IS WHY~~~YOU NEVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES WANT YOUR SS# ON YOUR LICENSE!!!

IF IT IS "NORMAL" TO HAVE THE SS# AS YOUR LICENSE # (IN YOUR STATE)...DEMAND A DIFFERENT #

    I know ;-)

About 2 years ago, I called the DMV here in Louisiana and asked about getting my ssn removed from my license and the lady said, 'we can't do that'.

I didn't argue with her then, but I am gonna see about it now, since this thread came up.

    Thanks George!!!!!

"CAN I HAVE YOUR NAME FOR THE COURT APPEARANCE TO SEE WHAT THE JUDGE HAS TO SAY ABOUT IT"

MY SS CARD ACTUALLY SAYS THIS----->FOR SOCIAL SECURITY
    AND TAX PURPOSES--NOT FOR IDENTIFICATION.

COPY AND PASTE IT WHEN YOU GO TO COURT!!!

DON'T FORGET MY 2 F.I.C.O. POINTS FOR IT'S USE THOUGH...

    :)

    My eyes are bugging out!!!!!

It takes some kinda kahunas for identity theft anyway, but stealing id from a 9-11 victim takes oversized kahunas!

    Manequinne,

That changed with the Driver's License right to privacy, privacy act, privacy fine print, privacy loopholes, LOL, I can't remember the whole title, it's Federal though, so the states don't have a choice, but I'll search it up if you need it.

It was that way here too, in fact, I had SS# for license number for a long time, OH, it was when my son got his license finalized (we have graduated licenses here), probably a year to year and a half ago, it was changed.

You can get a new number, random, just because it was previously your social.

Editing: Uh oh, I told you wrong. It looks like we've had the privacy act since 1994 with an opt out requirement. Our individual states were selling our driver's license information -- how special is that!

Then at the end of 2000 a senator tagged an opt-in provision to a transportation bill.

The big deal appears to be as it relates to national id cards and the tagged on opt-in provision forcing the state's to comply.

Here, state law was changed to not allow the selling of officially collected information, driver's license, voting records and the like.

Anyway, search on your own state and drivers license and privacy.

Here's an interesting link, Your Papers, Please: From the State Drivers License to a National Identification System:

    Thanks ;-).

I really had no idea you could get another number in it's place.

I just thought you could get rid of it from your license.

I learn something new everyday on this board ;-)

I'm gonna call tomorrow and see what happens.

    Thanks everyone!!!!!!

Yea I bookmarked it. You're welcome.

One really amazing thing...when I look at the scroll bar, the listing of the victim's names begin before the halfway point on that page.

I get astounded at how low people can get.

A good friend of mine had a high speed car accident on the freeway. Her car rolled. She was the only victim. She was out cold, hanging in the drivers seat, with a fractured spine. Her car was totalled.

Some scumbag had the balls to stop, go into her car, and steal her purse. He then drove straight to the mall and starting using her credit cards.

The police eventually caught the guy. It turns out he had just been released from prison that morning on parol, and my friend's accident happened right in front of him.

I still to this day can not believe that happened. It makes me want to just shoot the guy.
