Hi, I just spent the entire weekend going over my credit reports and "trying" to dispute some items on it. I did the disputes on-line as I thought that might be easier than doing all the writing and mailing and such. Just wondering if others have had any luck with this. Current scores are 639-571-642 and I know that is not going to get me anywhere. Another question - how many have actually had any luck with credit goodwill letters. I have a couple of collections from when I was unable to work due to a brain tumor which has since been removed and I'm back at work. I'm willing to put in the time to write and send, just wondering if it is a total waste of time or not. I'm very hesitant to use any "credit repair" companies as you just don't know who you can trust these days, right?
Well, hello to all and thanks for any suggestions or pointers. T~~~~

    letters to individual creditors

I'd suggest sending paper letters directly to the individual creditors that you want to dispute; send them a debt validation letter. Their addresses will be on your report.

Failed disputes will allow you to enter some words onto an entry in your report. Since a brain tumor is easily seen as a once in a lifetime sort of event, noting that (adding a note to that effect) on bad credit entries for which that very valid excuse applies is likely a good step to take too.

    Persevere.

Personally, although I have tried several times throughout the years I've never been able to get anything removed from any of my credit reports.

I have seen many people on this and other boards claim they had great success but I've never had any luck whatever no matter how hard I tried.

That's why I think I have a much better way to get rid of negatives that is much more effective. The method I advocate not only gets rid of the negatives on credit reports, it gets rid of judgments too.

Not only does it do those things but it also puts thousands of dollars into your wallet on top of that. It also means that the credit bureaus handle you with kid gloves forever after. Call them up to dispute something and they will immediately transfer your calls to a special handling unit where you will get special attention to your demands.

To my thinking that's got to be a much better way to go then trying to beat one's head against a brick wall.

Welcome...I think you may be the first member ever from Kasilof, AK! The Kenai is such a beautiful place. I would love to make it up there again some time to do some fishing.

Anyway, the online dispute system may be easier, but it's not very effective. Take the time to keep all your communication in writing as MrGreen suggested, and your requests will be taken more seriously. Also, goodwill letters can still be effective, but it just tends to be hit or miss. There are plenty of posters here that have recently had success, and others who haven't, so I wouldn't say that it's a total waste of time. You may find yourself pleasantly surprised.

The online dispute can work for simple things, letters are better(paper trail). If it's verified online then you have to write out you next report with them. You can't type in new info!.On line so better to get the paper report rolling.
