hello, I am new, and want to clear up the wrong entries on my credit report. there is a state tax lien, but I dont know how to find out how it got there or how to get any other info about it. I do have a docket number. any advice? and, I am going to pull my credit from the three main bureaus, and then start from there. what is the first thing to do? write letters stating "not my debt" right? Are there threads in this forum I should read first, to educate myself? I want to do things the right way, and ensure the most success. thanks
the 1st thing to do is call your state tax office and if it has been paid you can have them clear it up with the court house and then when you go to clear up your CR just put it in dispute statis and they will be able to remove it
You call the clerk of the court where the lien was granted to get more info on the lien. If it is your tax lien it can remain for 7 years from date paid.
state tax lien reporting period question I paid two tax liens in 2005 and 2006 (one in 2005 the other in 2006). I called the state to verify payment and they are sending forms to take to court to lift the liens and this information would be forwarded to the CRAs for update to a 'paid tax lien' status. They also informed me that the 7 year count down begins at completion of this process, not from the date the liens were paid. Can I contest this?
