Hello everyone! I have been reading this board for some time now, but just officially signed up as a member today. You guys are great! Well, I guess I'll give you my story now. I have always been in the 800+ club since I was in college. I have never had problems getting credit at all--even almost bought a house. In 2002 my wife and I seperated, and yup, I spent about $22,000 in legal fees trying to protect myself in a vengeful and vindictive divorce proceeding. In the end I found myself getting about what I would have if I had just used her attorney anyway, so...I found myself up to my ass in debt. Tried the CCC route and found that was a joke, tried to get a loan but to no avail. Two weeks ago I filed chp. 7 bk. I am scared and wondering what could be worse, but I think I did the right thing getting out from under $35,000+ of debt. Now the waiting begins on the outcome, and then the credit repair. That is why I am here. You all seem so positive that you can get things done! I can't wait to get started once my debt is discharged. It looks like alot of work, but you guys at least seem to get alot of satisfaction from it. Well, right now I am reading the primer and I will definately take the 4 weeks to ingest all the information here. Thanks
Welcome to the board. I hope things work out for you. Since you've already filed the BK I won't go into that, although my choice was different.
When I read your post, it reminded me of myself. I was so desperate to get out of the marriage, that I left with nothing amd i also took half the debt and there was no way I was ever going to pay it all off. So I filed Chapter 7 in 96'. At first I was miserable and I felt so worthless, but in retrospect it was the right thing to do. I was doing eveything I could to pay the bills and it just was n't working. The first year was hard, but things do get better. I got a mortgage 2 years later. I walked into a car dealership with the discharge papers in my hand and leased a car with no problems at all. Credit cards were difficult, as far as the interest goes, but that gets better too, as time goes on. When the dust settles, get your credit reports and make sure that everything that was dismissed is reported as such. Get a secured card from Capitol One, and whatever you do don't send a copy of your discharge papers to any of the credit reporting agencies. I made that mistake, before I found this board. Good Luck!
hey razorback! Not in or around arkansas LOL!? nice name.... READ THIS and think about this NOW! Get rid of the emotion - victim - ex routine. Think business - clear your emotions- you got screwed OK. SO has EVERYONE ELSE on this BOARD -in some way - or they would not be here. NOW you are doing the CHAP 7 - It will be completed soon with no fanfare and no ticker tape parade near the courthouse. You will go for 1/2 hour, then you will be free of the debt. They will not brand your skull - the public will not know- and then go have a drink and relax. Soon you will be offered a Capital One secured or some type of MC. YOu will take it and the rates will be very high. But take it. Then we will work on the rebuilding. razorback - I am being a friend to you - from an outsiders viewpoint reading your post. This was an unfortunate series of events - but you took action - and now you move on. We'll be glad to help you rebuild and get past this - but you have to help others on here as well CLARITY razorback. The crap is over - now you need to make razorback happy. You can do ANYTHING with FOCUS and CLARITY. aarrff - dogman I wish that you were possibly still in the not filed stages yet. I agree with Hedwig - this could have been reworked and avoided by using other methods. But we can help - I started out with a Ch 13.
