Sounds like you might be the victim of ID theft. I would 1st put a fraud alert on my reports if I were you. That way they cannot apply for any other cc's, loans etc in your name. Woudl also pull a copy of all 3 credit reports to see if any other inq's show up. Then I would be contacting the cc companies and telling them that you didn't apply and see what info they will give you. You might even consider filig a police report just in case.

    Good luck!

Excellent advice. Don't worry about the dispute at this point, find out about possible fraud!

#1 -- A fraud alert does NOT stop someone from applying, NOR does it stop a company from granting credit to 'you' without your knowledge. All it does is tells them that they should be cautious when considering the application. The alert statement may TELL THEM to contact you, but there is no legal reprecussions if they don't...

The only thing which it does prevent is PRM inquiries, since the CRAs also put a 2-year PRM block on your account.

    Now, that said...

Send a letter to all of the CRA's in which you alert them to the situation, and request a free copy of your credit report. (Not just the big 3.)

"I was recently made aware of inquiries to my credit reports which I did not authorize, and I believe that I may be the victim of identity theft.

I would like to receive a copy of my credit report, which has been marked to indicate this situation."

You will also want to alert the companies which declined 'your' application, and notify them that you did not apply for credit with their company, and you would appreciate their assistance in resolving this situation.
