Hi, I used to be otherterri here, but cannot get account to work any longer. My husband died suddenly 8 weeks ago. Through Creditnet I was able to work very hard, clear his credit and get a mortgage for our first home (after 20 years of marriage and 6 kids). Now I am a housewife, no recent job history to speak of, with an EQ score of something like 530. It would be devastating to lose the only home we ever owned, and to move to a place where my husband never lived. The home was new in 2002, and the base price has increased about $30,000. Plus our 2 small decks and lots of plants all over the yard. Does anyone have any ideas to get a mortgage in my situation? I am desperate.
Why do you need a mortgage? Is the house in both of your names? If not, did your husband have a will or make provisions for you and your children in the event of his death? I'm not trying to badger you, but I'm trying to understand why you would need to obtain another mortgage instead of assuming the one that is already there.
I'm sorry, I thought I had included that information. There was no life insurance and the mortgage is in his name only.
so you need to reduce the payments or get it in your name? Plus what state are you in? Is it a community property state?
I live in Ohio. I would need to get a mortgage in my name, it was only in his. I do not have good credit, and I have no recent job history, because my job was being a Mom. I am an intelligent person, and will figure out a way to earn a living soon. I do receive social security for myself and 4 of the 6 kids. Thank you!
Is it that you can't make the mortgage payment now? If you can, make the payments for 12 months. Copy those checks front and back-file them. After you have been working at least a year (or one and a half preferably) refi it into your name. As long as the mortgage company is getting their $$$ they won't care if it's not in your name. If you can't make the payment by yourself have you considered taking in a tenant for awhile until you are employed and doing ok? You have a mortgage now...just not in your name(community property?) Good luck and God Bless
I did not make the payments. I thought they would just take the house because it is not in my name. My husband was unemployed most of last year. He was behind on the payments, but had a repayment plan. So now I am several months behind. And the payments are almost as much as my ss, but I will need to get a job.
Terri, I tried responding to your last email but it bounced. Feel free to try again. Glad to see you back.
I received two letters in the mail today offering to help me save my home because a lawsuit has been filed to foreclose on my home. I did not even know it. My husband has only been dead for 8 weeks. I don't know if there is anything I can do. Do I trust these people and call them? Should I call every business who deals in saving homes and try to figure out what to do? Now I am really desperate. It is bad enough that my husband is dead. I have a hard time believing it sometimes. This is just another form of devastation that I don't want to evperience. Terri
have you looked into any of the places we recommended you contacting for emergency assistance? no, i wouldn't trust them..
Yes, I have called some places for assistance. I am taking a class later in the summer to help me figure out a career. Thank you. Still don't know what to do about my home. I have the lawsuit from the court now for the foreclosure. Sent it to my nephew's wife who is an attorney in another state. She is a corporate attorney, but she said she would speak to the mortgage company. In the mean time, I am trying to figure out what I might be able to do to get a mortgage myself.
New development: The photo copy of the first page of the mortgage has been tampered with. The copy included in the lawsuit x'd out some words so that it appears the mortgage was in both our names. What they crossed out says: "for the purpose of dower rights" The lawsuit then states that on (date) Hubby and I BOTH entered into a mortgage. That is a lie! What does it mean when someone crosses out words on a legal document for their benefit? I guess I should start a new thread and ask about dower rights.
