Okay, here goes nothing. I have been trying to clean up my reports for about two months, and apparently am going about it the wrong way. I have a duplicate account with First USA on my reports, the same account with different accounts numbers, with the same exact W/O amount of $6462 with date of status 11/97 and 05/98, respectively. I disputed with EX on 05/28/02 as duplicate accounts, and they did not even do any sort of inquiry or update, as the reported date did not change, and I got a response that companies can transfer or sell an account to themselves and this remains on the credit report. Am I wrong in thinking that this makes me look as though I have two accounts with a total of 13,000 in charge off? I thought about writing to First USA, or their collection agency, but I feel like I am sending things backwards and screwing myself up in the process. Should I send a 2nd dispute letter to EX and ask how in the world you sell an account to yourself, and that in fact these are duplicates? Since First USA has not updated since 99, should I go through their collection agency and see if I can get them to screw up, to have it deleted alltogether? I have received something from Allied Interstate, to whom I sent a C/D letter 05/28/02 regarding First USA, from what I understand they are a bunch of idiots. Thanks for any input. I just don't want to be shooting myself in the foot and all my disputes getting treated as "frivolous" Thanks a million (if I had it.....) EX 580 EQ 522 TU 486 (ow)
I think I would call the CRA and get a real live person on the phone. When I did this for a similar situation, I didn't have too much trouble getting them to delete one of the tradelines (they're both gone now, Hah!) Remind them of their obligations under FCRA, and, if necessary make it clear that you are willing to file in Small Claims if necessary, even if you aren't all that willing. Rattle your saber. Good Luck!
