Background: My husband had two Amex accounts last year that both went into collections at the same time (due to an error on my part not opening the statements cuz I thought they were her his corporate card). We were contacted by two different CAs and we paid the balances in full within a week. Several months later, one of the closed accounts showed a credit balance of about $100, with the notation to the effect that it was an adjustment. Amex cut him a check in January. In March, we were contacted by a 3rd CA on that acount for the same amount as our credit. We sent a validation letter in April and never heard back from them. Today husband received a letter from Amex offering a settlement of 60% of the balance they were trying to collect. Since this is the OC can we demand validation? We honestly don't think we owe that money, since we paid the balance in full that was demanded last year from the CAs. How should we respond? We do have the letter from the CA this spring, but I don't think we have any other documentation from last year. Thanks for any help you can offer, Poochie
