I got a silver AA card over a year ago that I upgraded to the platinum select. Last week, I applied for the gold and received the new card today. I called customer service right away to combine the new AA gold with my existing Plat Select but the rep said that I could not do that. She told me that I could consolidate the cards but my credit limit would not increase. Now what is the point of that? I might as well close the new card. Should I keep calling or does Citi have a new rule about this? Has anyone combined cards lately?
You can also get the PLATINUM SELECT DIVIDEND or P/S SONY instead of combining with your "REGULAR" PLATINUM SELECT (as a last resort)...
You need to convert the Gold AA card into it's own Platinum Select card. Once that is done, *then* combine that card into the older Platinum Select.
Thank you for all the helpful replies. Good suggestion, marci. I hadn't thought of that. I think I will give it a shot and see what happens. I love this board. You guys know all the creative ways to do this sort of thing.
Jen, Just make sure they convert it into the basic "Platinum Select" and NOT the "AA World Platinum Select". The latter comes with a hefty annual fee.
...and ask about the 0.00% BT rate (9 months)...and the "GO-TO" rate of PRIME + 0.99% NOTICE~~~you might get the same answer as me..."YOUR ACCOUNT DOESN'T COME WITH A BT PRIVILEGE" PFB and/or FAX and ask why they advertise EVERYWHERE the 0.00% for 9 months if you can't get it...
