I am trying to find out if credit cards are considered open ended agreements or written contracts in Louisiana, so that I know what the SOL is for this as it is either 3 or 10 years.

    Thanks in advance

I continue to be impressed with the incredibly high level of questions asked by newcomers this past week. The questions are so good, in fact, that one might think the newcomers aren't quite newcomers, cough, cough. :)

That said, I wish I could answer your question with absolute confidence. Regardless, I do have confidence in these sources:

Cardreport.com maintains an excellent "Statute Of Limitations For Debts" page. They suggest that credit cards are generally considered "open accounts," which in your case would be good news. Here is the URL for that reference:
    http://www.cardreport.com/laws/statute-of-limitations.html

You might also want to simply send several "consumer needs answer" emails to faculty members at Tulane Law School. Some informed individual there is likely to answer your email. Here's the contact link:
    http://www.law.tulane.edu/contact.htm

I've also come across some technical message boards related to consumer credit. The first is FreeAdvice.com's "Credit & Collection Problems" message board. That board enjoys quite a number of attorneys in addition to informed consumers, and here's the link:

The American Bar Association maintains the "FindLaw" web sites, which include three message boards related to consumer credit. The links to those follow.

FindLaw Message Boards -- Credit Cards:

FindLaw Message Boards -- Credit Reporting:

FindLaw Message Boards -- Dealing with Creditors:

Finally, FindLaw's consumer credit pages for Louisiana are here:

Although you may not net an answer to your highly targeted question on this board, I'm confident that one or more of these links will put you in touch with those who are in a position to answer you specifically.
