Does anyone know of a free download to my computer that will help to stop spam from being sent to my computer ? If you know of a download and have used it, let me know how well it worked. I used to get 5 to 10 spam messages a day. Now I am getting 60. Yikes !!
This is MAJOR OT (unless all of your spam is coming from collectors). But...in the interest of truth, justice and the American way, go to www.cnet.com and put the word spam in the search box. Bye.
As mentioned before, this is waaaaaaay OT but I have a quick suggestion for you (I'm a support tech by day when I'm not putting up the good fight against CRA's, OC's and CA's, so I make this recommendation allot.) Try www.mailwasher.net . There aren't many good Spam-filtering options out there but this one's pretty decent (and free).
Sheepshead | There are a lot of computer savvy posters here at CREDITNET Who don't mind helping with occasional questions such as this. Of course you wouldn't know this no longer than you've been around.
I get around 30 porn emails a day in each email address. Now I am getting popups that contain porn. I have searched high and low in my computer and cannot find where it is coming from. I have used adaware and spybot. I have used the search box. I have cleaned every cookie and temp file I can find. I have a 2 and 5 year old who use the comp alot and now I cannot let them use it. Some of the emails are coming out from paypopup.com. I went there and opted out but am still getting spammed. I am calling tomorrow and if they do not stop I will sue them hell out of them. I am sick of it.
I DID GET 4 OR 5 SPAMS PER WEEK!!!!!!!!!! Now with the NEW AOL SPAM BLOCKER...I get 20-50 PER WEEK!!!!!!!!!
I believe that those of us who have their e-mail address listed for forum users get put on every mass mailer of porn in the world by malicious intent. I have used "stopzilla" on my computer systems for popups and faithfully send every porn spam I get to the Govt. reporting site- uce@ftc.gov.
ON THE OTHER-HAND...I CAN'T GET The FrequentFlier Crier THAT I SIGNED UP FOR BECAUSE A LOT OF ISP'S THINK EVEN IF YOU HAVE "TONS" OF SUBSCRIBERS...YOU MUST SENDING THEM SPAM!!! I signed up 3 or 4 months ago and got 2 issues on AOL and 3 issues on YAHOO...it is sent every WEDNESDAY!!! AOL and YAHOO get to decide for me WHAT E-MAIL I WANT!?!?!?!?!?!
For some reason MailWasher won't download. Many of the spams are credit related so I may just quit using my email and get a hotmail account for personal use.
Re: Re: Help - email spam I use Spybot myself but it won't keep the spyware from coming back (it just removes it). Check this site out for a few free programs that, used in conjunction with Spybot, *should* put the kibosh on the problem. SpywareGuard - This program runs in the background and promts you if any spyware is detected when you surf, download, etc. SpywareBlaster - This program effectively "neuters" your IE browser . It prevents that garbage from even being installed on your machine. Since using this one, my spybot has picked up virtually nothing after months of use. Also, never "opt-out"; be it on a website or one of those email links on the spam mail that say "remove yourself from our list". That's just a trap to verify that there's a living-breathing person on the other end of that email. If anything, it makes it worse. And lastly, try the above mentioned MailWasher program. It lets you preview the sender & subject of an email from your ISP's server before it ever gets downloaded to your email program. Hope this helps,
Re: Re: Help - email spam Try downloading the free version here: Download.com You can download the pro-version from download.com as well but it's on a 30-day trial. I find the free version perfectly adaquate however.
Re: Re: Help - email spam OH, garsh, I though you were already there ! By all means ! I use the free Yahoo e-mail account. It's great to just click one box and poof! all the e-mails in my inbox are gone. (That's after I've screened for all the thread notices or other credit board e-mails.)
