I have a $200.00 debt from 2001 for a gym membership that's appearing on Experian. I have disputed as "not mine" and they have verified. I live in Texas and the SOL is 4 years.

I sent them a letter to settle with them for deletion but did not admit that the debt was mine just that I wanted to settle for deletion.

They responded by sending me a letter (looks like a form letter) did not mention my settlement letter at all, just that I have 30 days from receiving THEIR notice to dispute the validity of this debt.

What would you suggest I do next? This is a small collection agency (American Professional Credit, Inc.) in Atlanta, Georgia.

Send a validation letter to the collection agency.

Then do a search here for health clubs or gym membership. I remember reading something about them but don't really have time to research right now.

With EX, it will be next to impossible to dispute it once they've verified it for any reason.

Especially with EX, what you want to do is dispute it first with a validation letter, and *THEN* dispute it with EX, once you know that they have received the dispute.
