I need some advice very badly. I disputed the last 2 collections on my Equifax and supposedly they came off. So I go to my credit union to apply for a credit card and I get denied. The branch manager shows me a copy of my Equifax credit file and the collections are still there. I called Equifax earlier that morning to find out the status of their investigation and they said the collections have been deleted and my file has been updated. When I got home I called Equifax again and I get the same answer. I ask to speak with a supervisor but the represenative refuses. Any advice on how to resolve this.
RE: Help JP, Barry, Kristi, Er Ask Equifax to send you a current copy, dated. Call the credit union and give them Equifax's toll free number and sit your butt at the loan officers desk until they call Equifax. Credit Unions WILL do it. Accordingly, if Equifax does not fax or send you an updated copy reflecting the deletions, then blame them for your loan denial. RE: Help JP, Barry, Kristi, Er rc0202@aol.com You appear to be having the same problem that I am having, I too had several delq's and collections on my EQUIFAX report, I disputed them, and they were removed, and equifax sent me a copy showing this, low and behold I was denied due to collections, well I requested another copy of my report, and what was there, the collections, and the past dues. At first I thought I was lied to by equifax, however upon closer inspection of the report, I noticed that the inquires off the updated copy with the collection accts removed, were different with the copy equifax just sent me. I further ordered a copy online and paid 8 dollars for instant access, guess what, the collections were gone....well I investigated again, APPARENTLY, equifax has 2 credit files under my SSN, and they were unaware of it. All the bad credit in my case was removed, but only on the one report, b/c that is all you're supposed to have, Equifax to this date is still researching how this could have happened, and I have no idea when you apply for credit, what triggers what file to be sent to prospective credit grantors. All I know is a representative CANNOT help you, you have to talk to someone in CONSUMER RELATIONS/FRAUD, or TEAM 32. Ask to be transferred to fraud, and have them do a SSN search, they can do it, whatever you do , do not give them a confirmation # b/c it will only pull up one file, and an address search will only pull up one file as well, a SSN search is the only way to catch the dup files. I will search for the direct 770 area code # to reach someone in the CR dept, and post it on the board when I get home. I hope this helps you. Regards, Arthur
RE: Help JP, Barry, Kristi, Er Did they send you the updated copy of the credit report yet? They do this after they COMPLETE the investigation. You can take this to the bank and show it to them to clarify things. I've found that waiting for the written confirmation of the deletion works best. Sometimes it takes them a few days to remove the item once they have decided to do so. Alternatively, you can buy the Equifax report on-line and peruse it there. The most important point here is that it takes time for things to change with the CRAs. Also, sometimes the collection agency will update the record with the CRA, and you need to go back and ask them to delete it again. Be sure to point out that they already deleted this item, if that is the case.
