Alright, I have recently received all 3 of my credit reports and am now ready to move on to the next step. The reports have several inconsistencies. The main one being multiple reporting of the same debt by 3 different CAs. I plan to dispute everything. And see what turns up valid. I have every intention to settle up valid accounts and rectify my previous indiscretions, however upon research I have a few questions. I believe the most disputes to one CRA would be experian with a grand total of four (reporting one debt twice frome different CAs)I read somewhere on this board that 4 was a safe number to send at once. I also read on this board to send only one at a time. If I send multiple disputes to a CRA can I include them in the same letter, or should I send seperate requests? Advise please. Also about the dispute form letter. Can i use this letter or is it better to draft my own? TU included a dispute form with the copy of their report. This was handy, unfortunately if anyone has correct information I believe it to be them. They are only reporting the one item I have multiples for and they have the most recent dates. anyway Multiple disputes? Is it safe to use form dispute letter from this board? Certified mail? Basically, what do i do next? thanks for your help everyone.
Oh yeah one more thing. My credit reports don't include acct#s (well partials for the most part). Can I still dispute?
I always sent disputes with about 4 items on it. Yes, put all items in one letter. You can use the letters here, but it is just as easy to write your own. All you need to put is the tradeline name, acct. #, your name, address and ss#. Just say I dispute the validity of acct #xxxx as it is not my acct. Please delete. Definitely send it certified mail, return receipt requested (r/r/r) so that if it becomes necessary later to prove the received it, you will have it. I would also suggest that you dispute the oldest first as they will most likely be the easiest to get rid of. If the reports don't contain complete acct #'s, then use what they have on there.
Personally, I never use the dispute form enclosed with the credit report. Draft a letter, use the sample as a guideline but keep it very brief. For every dispute let them know it's incorrect and you want it investigated. You can say not mine, Never had a reposseeion on 9/02 whatever. Just don't give to much information leave yourself some room for future disputes.
First, Welcome aboard. You will find loads of good advice here. And as you seem to have found out, searching is a great tool. YES you can send EACH CRA more than one dispute at a time. In fact if you follow the form you got from TU you see there are about 3 or 4 multiple boxes for disputed listings. Make sure you send CRRR. Use the sample letter to guide you. ALWAYS customize it, but make certain you leave the general points in there. Do NOT send anything with any further information to the CRA's than is contained in the sample letter. If you must send documentation, or are requested by them to send further documentation post here BEFORE you do so we can make recommendations. They used to ALL send the form with every report. I guess paper and printing costs have made us search for alternate means. I have blank forms from all 3 (not with me at the moment) and if you really needed them, I can send you copies so you could print them out....but the sample forum has examples of dispute letters that work. TIP: Submit your disputes online. That way you get them in quicler, and can be ASSURED they are submitted (sometimes you wait forever for the green card and the disputes are never entered by snail mail). Just make certain to print out each screen so you retain your evidence trail. All you need to do an online dispute is the "confirmation number" (the unique number at the top of each report. (I remember reading recently that Experian has removed their online dispute capability, I am not certain if it is back online or not). Good Luck, and great to have you with us. -Peace, Dave
Yes, I did all my disputes online, and I've had great success with it. I like that I don't have to wait, and wonder how long before they receive them in the mail. Experians disputes is working, but you can't dispute inquiries online. I always disputed 2-4 at a time, with very good results. Good luck to you, let us know how you do!!
