this is my first time..and i spent about an hr browsing through the past messages trying to get a sense of what kind of advice is given around here, etc....and to say the least, im very impressed. however, im a novice to say the least at this field...so im going to need some direction in the beginning..

    here is my situation

    my fico is 584

    Details:
the brief summary it gives says i have 6 accounts that are potentially negative, 0 in good standing.

    1. Discover..opened 2000..current balance $845/$1000 limit. high balance 1368. 30days as of 1-2003, 9-2002, 6-2001
THE THING ABOUT DISCOVER IS THAT IM NOW IN GOOD STANDING AND HAVE BEEN PAYING ON TIME FOR THE LAST 3 MONTHS. SO WHY IS IT STILL POTENTIALLY NEGATIVE WHEN IM PAYING BEFORE THE DUE DATE? IS THIS SOMETHING I CAN DISPUTE?

    2. Capital One...opened 2001...status="open/current, was past due 30days"...30days as of 10-2001. high balance 336, limit 200. i paid this off in 2-2003 and closed my acct. yet it seems like its not reflecting that on my report? or am i missing something?

    3. Capital One (another one)..opened 2002..status="paid/current, was past due 30days"..high balance 881, limit 500...30days as of 1-2003, 7-2002...i paid this off and closed the account as well...it is reflected on the credit report

    4. First Tennessee...opened 2000...status="open/current, was past due 60days"...60 days as of 9-2002, 30days as of 8-2002, 11-2001, 4-2001...high balance 844, limit 500...paid this off yet it is not reflected on report

    5. First Tennessee...same card as #4...."card reported lost/stolen" anything i can do about this?

    6. here's the killer...Verizon Wireless...status= "paid/account charged off. $537 written off". it says the acct is scheduled to stay on my record until 6-2007. "charge off as of 3-2002, 2-2002"

right now im thinking about disputing discover b/c that should be in good standing, trying to take first tenn lost card off of record, and verizon taking off the charge off.....also im gonna become an authorized user of a card under someone who has a FICO of 760..will that help?

as of three days ago, my new discover balance is $9.00, so that shoudl help alot....

should i do the address thing first, and then start sending validation letters to verizon?

thanks in advance for the suggestions on how to approach this....

also one more ques...what is the usual FICO threshold for obtaining educational loans?? thanks again

It will remain in the potentially negative column until all those old lates disappear

I wouldn't dispute that its closed yet. It is going to hit the two year mark sometime this year.

Its showing a balance still due?

    Not hurting you either way

Dispute this as "do not recognize", not mine, or something along those lines. Verizon is an OC and doesn't have to validate.

If that card has a no negatives, and they do report you as an AU to the CRs it will help.

Yes do the address thing, but see my other comment above.

so my first step is to get a PO Box and have two bills sent there?

my second step is to send the "do not recognize" letter regarding verizon acct to the CRA's or to verizon? also, if i send the letter to the CRA's, do i send them to all 3, or just to one?

is there any way i can write discover and request that they take off some of the lates, a good will letter perhaps, considering i just paid down my balance to 0.9% of my credit limit?

im really trying to get a student loan for college...and i need to get it in june/july. so im trying to find the quickest ways to fix some credit, so i can get above 650. obviously, though, i dont wanna shoot myself in the foot in the process and screw myself over in the long run...so if doing it correctly takes a full year, then ill do that.
