Hello creditnet people~ I just pulled my credit report the other day and there was a judgement on the public records section on it by the county tax collector! I checked with the county and they said that the person the judgement was against wasn't me. I read Doc's primer but wasn't sure how to proceed. The sample letters were mostly for credit disputes and kind of mean. Should I follow the same strategy and write to the CRA in such a forceful way and explain the judgement wasn't against me and they have the wrong person? Or do I write a nasty letter to the county? I wasn't sure if the county reported it to the CRA. TIA
CAN THE COUNTY...give you a letter saying that you are NOT the person with the JUDGEMENT??? Then send it to the CRA--"NOT MINE"
I wasn't sure if the county reported it to the CRA. Originally posted by TgirL =============================== The county don't report to CRAs. CRAs Check public records. This is how they picked it up.
Public Records entries are the exact opposite of everything else in your credit file. That is the only thing that the CRA gathers, and that the CRA isn't given to them by the furnisher. Its basically like you asking the courthouse if it is yours, they pull it up and told you no. The CRAs go to the courthouse, ask for all the records, then attempt (wrongly in this case) to match up the records from the courthose to their credit files.
So I guess trying to get a letter from the county saying it's not me and sending it to the CRA with a letter explaining they made a mistake is the best way? If I can't get a letter from the county (workers there are only helpful is prodded) I guess I have to write a nasty dispute letter to the CRA. Thanks guys.
