Hello all, I am writing this situation on behalf of my GF and I. We are relatively young college students, and we both have taken trips to the emergency room and we owe a sum of money to the hospital. We are US citizens but do not have health insurance with the reason that we have basically started living in US since starting to attend college two years ago. My GF has a $3400 debt from a ER visit in Mar of 2004. She works as a waitress and makes less than 10,000 a year. She has only enough money to pay her rent and some left over money for food and transportation. My situation is a little bit better, I owe around $1100 in Medical Bills. My GF got a collection notice from Uxxxxx Collection Bxxxxx (I'm not sure whether it's safe to post this as I've read that this forum is monitored). in beginning of OCT 2004 from an attempt to collet a debt in the amount of $787. She then made payments of around $150 to the Hospital itself, and subsequently in Dec of 2004, made a payment arrangment with the CA of installment of $50 a month. She missed a payment in Jan of 2005, and that is now in her CR. She only found that out when her first CC App got denied. I also have a letter from the same company requesting $500. Luckily, I am under the 30 day deadline and I plan to send them a letter soon. Aside from that we both have letters from Comp. Cred. Inc, her in the amount of $2000, me around $700. It looks like the former CA has actually purchased the debt from the hospital, and the latter one is just working with the hospital. I went through the FAQ's and some Hall of Fame posts. What do you recommend is the best course of action for me and my GF? We both are college students with less than minumum income. My GF wants to pay off the smaller debt and get it off her Credit Report, but she won't be able to pay off her larger debt any time soon with the money she is making. I read about Charge Offs, and that in 7 years we will be able to take it off the CR. Is this something that is worth taking for her larger debt? My GF basically can't get a CC of her own until that debt in CR is taken off. I already have two CC's and she is under my CC as an authorized user. My CR has nothing of that sort reported yet. So could anyone give us some good advices/course of action?
