Telecheck just said they based their decision on several things including a credit check rfmjb ============== This looks like a $1000 violation to me. The END ************************* LB 59
Re: Re: Re: Help! My check was denied at mall! our solution was to just trash the first batch of checks and start using some higher numbered ones (seriously). mark =============== You could have just taken a check out of a pad of higher numbered checks instead. The END ************************* LB 59
Re: Re: Re: Help! My check was denied at mall! If I get a new checking account and their checks start out with 100 I trash the whole box and order new ones right awaay.
Re: Re: Re: Help! My check was denied at mall! One that was denied by telecheck went to the manager of the store about it and was told any check # under 2000 would be denied. tnobles ================== How does changing the number on a check increase or decrease the chance that it will bounce? Like I said this is the FICO of Check numbers. Where do these people come up with such insane ideas? I swear these businesses are all run by insane asylum escapes. The END ************************* LB 59
Re: Re: Re: Re: Help! My check was denied at mall! No need to do that : Just order checks with the starting number you want. PS: If you really want to throw a monkey wrench into their limited logic just order 3 or 4 boxes of checks and start each box of checks with the same number.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Help! My check was denied at mall! And then you go to these message boards and read some of the posts that pop up from time to time and its about the same situation. Like how to screw up your accounting and bounce more checks by ordering all your checks with the same check numbers on them.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Help! My check was denied at mall! All this aside: I don't see how the number on the check assures that the check is good or bad.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Help! My check was denied at mall! LB59. Maybe not. GEORGE is close though, about half of all checks that bounce are numbered <300 Sometimes the young teens forget about all the fees associated with a checking account (Min. bal requirements, monthly fee, check writing fee, etc)
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Help! My check was denied at mall! As usual, common sense ought to answer the question. Those who continually bounce checks must continually open new accounts to bounce them on because the banks usually close down problem accounts rather quickly. Those who don't bounce checks tend to open one account and keep it nearly forever only changing if they move so far out of the area that it is a definite hardship to maintain the banking relationship. So those who open new checking accounts must be unstable people who move about a lot and may be hard to locate if a check did bounce or they may be people who have a history of bouncing checks. Those are the reasons why low check numbers may be indicative of bad check passers. Due to the prevalance of debit cards now that isn't much of an indicator any more.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Help! My check was denied at mall! Hay Bill: You remember back when checks didn't have a preprinted nymber on them don't you? The Check number wasn't a problem back then so why should it be one now? Looks like we need to go back to the old unnumbed system and solve everybodys problem. PS I never let my check numbers go over 999. Each year I start with a new check book and start over with the check numbers.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Help! My check was denied at mall! Exactly. With debit cards, there is no need to write checks at retail shops anymore. I'm to young to remember checks not having pre-printed numbers on them, that must have been strange. If you bounce checks at one bank, won't chexsystems stop you from opening up another checking account at another bank?. Seems that was the purpose of chexsystems in the first place
Re: Re: Re: Re: Help! My check was denied at mall! Hay is for horses and cows, sheep and goats, rabbits too. Hey is for Bill!(lol) vaguely. You just wrote your own number in there. Because nowadays people are always looking for some new way to cause problems. Back then people only worried about everybody elses problems and business so they had something to gossip about. Now they want to shoot the other guy out of the saddle at every opportunity. Debit cards take care of that nicely and pretty soon the debit/credit card will be on it's way out for more secure methods and technology. Its already happening.
Re: Re: Re: Help! My check was denied at mall! They said the numbers we were using where too low and we had to write more checks to establish 'credit' mark ================= You weren't borrowing any money so what does credit have to do with it? You should have asked them how many checks they needed and wrote them out that many for ten cents each or what ever it came out to for the total.LOL. The END ************************* LB 59
Re: Re: Re: Help! My check was denied at mall! bbauer: Are you referring to the use of embedded "smart" chips on so-called "smart cards" making their way into debit-cards/check cards?. That for sure will change the way transactions are handled at merchants.
Re: Re: Re: Help! My check was denied at mall! Of course you were borrowing money. Get real. There is no such thing as money in this United States of America today. Nobody has any money in the entire country, not even the banks, not even the U.S. Treasury, not even the U.S. Mint. All there is is instruments of debt and the only question remaining is who is the debtor. And so the only question that needs to be answered is whose debt is being tendered in payment for the goods or services requested by the purchaser. Is the instrument of debt backed by the ability of the potential purchaser of the product or service or is it backed by the full faith and confidence of the American People? If it is only backed by the ability of one person to pay then that's not much of a guarantee in most cases but if it is backed by the full faith and confidence of the American people then there is a much broader base upon which to draw. Simple as that. But regardless of any other factor, we are a nation running on instruments of debt and nothing else.
Re: Re: Re: Help! My check was denied at mall! Try that next time you go buy a new car or even pay your mortgage payment.
Re: Re: Re: Help! My check was denied at mall! That's almost historic already. Now they are talking fingerprint readers and retinal scanners in every store. They will read you like a bar code. Put your finger on the terminal or simply look into it for a second and the purchase is a done deal, the money already credited to their account.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Help! My check was denied at mall! This reminds me, how are we (that would be the Christian we, just cuz I'm not sure how many other religions have this as a tenet) supposed to avoid accepting 'the mark of the beast' when they just scan YOU, no chips, implants, or other weird surgeries required. It's hard to ditch one's DNA entirely. Now I have a question to float up for this week's Bible study class. woohoo!
Re: Re: Re: Help! My check was denied at mall! JOHN and JANE DOE have not bounced a check in 30+ years...they get a new checking account because the new bank in town pays better and they get "TONS" of freebies... They start with check #101... OH NO...THEY ARE GOING TO BOUNCE CHECKS ALL OVER TOWN NOW!!! DON'T YOU HAVE TO HAVE A BALANCE <$0.01 TO BOUNCE A CHECK??? THEY BETTER MAKE SURE THEY DON'T SIGN UP FOR THE "RESERVE ACCOUNT"...AND THEY BETTER NOT MAKE ANY DEPOSITS!!!
