*newbie* here so bare with me. Is there a site where I can get examples of letters requesting copies of my CR from all CRAs? i tried calling but they said they needed everything short of a blood sample, I know there has to be an easier way.
We are all newbies once! Have you tried ordering your reports online? The CRAs will ask for you basic information, as well as a few specific questions about your reports that are designed to make sure you are really you, and not an identity thief. You'll then be able to see your reports immediately. If you don't want to go the online route, just send them a letter which includes your name, address, social security number, and a number at which you can be reached. Depending on the bureau and the reasong you want your report, you might be entitled to a free one, otherwise there will be some sort of charge. You can also go through a single service like PrivacyGuard and pull all three of your reports at once. PG usually has a free 30 day trial offer so it won't cost you anything upfront, although you'll have to provide a credit card number which they'll bill a membership fee to if you don't remember to cancel. Anyway, good luck! Poochie
Thanks Poochie. I decided to go with privacy guard and I'm not surprised to see several items well over the 7 year limit and several items duplicates listed under both the original creditors and under CAs. If I'm not mistaken can't I send a letter requesting them remove the "expired" accounts along with the duplicate accounts or do I have to wait 7 years for the duplicate accounts as well? Also where may I find a copy of the letter that I need to send. Dole
Don't quote me on this but I'm not sure you can dispute directly through privacyguard. Do a search on this board's archives for' privacyguard dispute." In any case, the answer to your question is that if you buy the reports from the individual bureaus, you can dispute directly online. If the accounts that are over 7 years old are positive, don't dispute them as they are probably helping your score. The duplicates should come off as well - it's a violation for them to report inaccurate information - ie duplicate accounts. If you can't dispute through privacy guard, and you don't want to spend the extra $$ to buy the reports from the individual bureaus, then print out your PG report, black out all the information except the acounts in question and your name/SSN, and mail them a copy with short letter that just says something like: the following items are being shown on my credit report in error. These accounts are not mine. Please remove the innacurate information immediately, and send me a revised copy of my reports. Make sure your letter includes your current address and telephone number. Good luck! Poochie

You can't dispute directly through PG They will give you a "form letter" that you can fill out and print, and they will give you the addresses of all the CRA's so that you can mail your disputes to them
