    Hi all,

I need some advice. My husband has a few credit card accounts that he let get charged off (in 1997, I'm not sure what dates are posted to his credit record). Recently, he began receiving notices from collection agencies regarding payment. Today, he received a phone call at work regarding one of the accounts. He asked that they put the information in writing and mail it to him. The attorney on the line stated he would be mailing him a demand letter. What should the best course of action be? We want to get out from under all of this, the stress on me is just terrible. It keeps me awake at night with worry about our future and money in general.

Would it be wise to make a written repayment agreement and begin to take care of this mess? I fear this will begin the collection process on the others as well and we can't afford to pay everyone back at once (we just became first time parents and there are a lot more expenses now).

    Please help.

    Thanks,
    CR

These debts are almost 7 years old. What state are you in? They are probably past the SOL and are uncollectable. Pull all three of your and your spouse's cr's from the bureaus and see whats on there. That will be your first step.

Let us know what the letter says!

    Hi,

Thanks for you reply. I will pull all three reports. We live in California. I suspect the letter will arrive early next week and will post the contents.

    Thanks again,
    CR
