I am now also working on my hubby's reports and have a couple of questions. I am going to do validations with the creditors first before going to the CRAs this time. For those accounts like a mortgage where his ex wife still has the house, the mortgage (don't think she refinanced), etc...wouldn't they easily be able to validate the debt? Surely they would keep the documentation from start to finish on an account that is still open and used. Should I even bother sending them a request for validation? Also, on personal unsecured loans in excess of $10K...wouldn't they keep better trackof such a large sum? When it is from a bank, aren't there requirements for them to keep documentation of such large transactions? None of these accounts went to collections. He was current on everything with no lates all the way up until the day the petition for bk was filed and has been current on everything since. Is it possible (or does it even matter to his score) to dispute the "discharged in bk" off? I was going to start with the CRAs and dispute those that said "Included in BK/Charged Off" but thought going to the creditor first might get rid of some of them right off. Also...last question...I've heard Discover keeps everything so don't even bother with them. Is this true? Most of these accounts were opened in 1997 right after his divorce because he had to close the ones where they were joint holders. The BK was in early 1998. Thanks in advance for your help. L
I have successfully removed Discover account included in BK/7 from my EQ and TU reports. Disputed with CRA's and they disappeared on the first try. EQ remains. In my case BK/7 in 1999 removal of accounts included in BK/7 didn't buy me many score points. At most 10 points per deletion. FU-TU
how did you remove your accounts that stated in bk?? through the cra. want did you dispute ie (not mine,or not bk??) the reason i ask is i have 10 items that say included in bk and would like to get those removed
I disputed with the CRA's. Normally I stated that account was not included in bankruptcy. However, a few I have challenged on other inaccurate information such as late payment history, balances, etc. None were disputed as not mine! FU-TU
Thanks! Someone on another board mentioned that removing the "included in bk" notations wouldn't help. I ripped up the 10 validation letters I had done and am going to send disputes to the CRAs instead. There are a lot of incorrect notations to dispute...plus on one CR, they don't even have the disposition of the bk...still showing as just "petition filed". One CRA even has hubby's middle initial wrong...lol. L
I've removed many accounts listed as Ch7 BK etc. and I really haven't noticed an improvement in my scores.
Remember, when an account is listed in BK on your report, it usually has a status of "unrated". If that's the case, it is currently not affecting your score and it won't help to have it removed.
