Okay, so I am just now beginning the process of debt clean-up. I received a letter from a CA and it said I needed to pay in 5 days or they report to the big 3. Call this morning and Thomas says that I can make payments for Jan and Feb, but it will be on my credit by the end of Dec. I said why should I pay if it's going on my credit? We will report it paid. You and I both know that if it says charge-off, or paid in full, it still is negative, and I will not pay if it's gonna be reported. (I think I amazed him with that statement-thank you guys!!) Well let me make you this deal: 2 post dated checks by the end of Dec, one for Jan payment the other for feb payment. I asked him for a letter stating if I did this he would not report to the 3, and he said he could not do this. He said that I need to understand that alot of people promise to pay and never do...and that i would just have to trust him, and to add a note that thomas said not to put on credit with my checks. (but this was no gaurantee). I told him I didnt trust him and hung up....what do I do now? Mail the checks, call back and talk to manager. Any help would be appreciated.
NO! do not mail checks, mail a validation letter instead. If its not on your report, a validation letter will stop them from placing the account on your report. Remember they cannot place the unpaid collection on your report UNTIL they validate it. Never Ever trust a collection company, the bottom line is they want paid, and they won't keep the promise to you. If you dont' believe me ask others! Make them validate the debt, especially if it isn't listed on your credit report.
okay, so I'll mail the validation letter today. I know if they can't validate what to do, but I think they can...then what?
What is the collection account for? When was the charge off date? what type of debt is it? They might try to send you a print out of your address and phone number, don't accept it.
okay, it's a doctor's bill. i'm not sure the date for the charge-off. this is the first letter i've received from the c/a I received it yesterday, and it was dated 12/3 and said i had 30 days to dispute...etc...etc. the amount is only 357 so i doubt they will try to get a judgment against me.
