Ok, so here my issue. I have a judgement/collections account from an old apt in 2006 (That was due to a shifty landloard!) on my credit report. I contacted the original creditor to try and settle the account but they stated that the account was sold to the collection agency so I have to deal with them. I contacted the collection agency through letter and offered and settlement amount but only under the condition that they remove the entry from my credit report and report the payment to the prothonatary's office so they remove it from the credit report as well. The collection agency keeps stating that they can't remove the entry and that they also can't contact the prothonatary's office for removal either because they under contract with the original creditor to not remove it from my credit report even though they own the account. The prothonataries office entry comes off in 6/2012 and the collection agency comes off 6/2013. I would rather pay the settlement than wait til it comes off. If a collection agency owns the account can they acutally remove it and have the protonatary's office remove it? How do you suggest I can handle this one? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!
First, where are you located? It's not very often that I hear the term "prothonatary" used in the US. Anyway, if you are in the US and the OC sold your account to the CA, then you'll need to deal directly with the CA. Is this a collection we're talking about or an actual judgement that's already been awarded to the creditor?
I am in PA. The original creditor was awarded the judgement. But before they received payment to satisfy the judgement they sold the account to a collections agency. By the way this was in 2006.
Legitimate judgements are really difficult to get removed from credit reports, and they tend to hang around FOREVER once they're there. The CA won't be able to do anything for you in regards to the OC. Like I said previously, you'll need to deal with both parties separately. So, are you credit reports showing a charge off, collection, and judgement for this same account?
