Help:remove derogatory acct (again)

    Hi, sorry my previous post was somehow burried in the junk and got a zero length.

    I am new to here. found the forum very helpful but didn't have time to dig in, so bear with me if my question has been answered somewhere here.

    I have a medical bill of $120 (emergency room) over 3 1/2 years ago one day before I graduated. The hospital sent the bill to me and I fowarded to my previous school insurance policy office. They said they would take care of it. However, the bill was only paid around $25 and only three years later I found out from my credit report that it has been collected by a CA and reported last Oct to Experian.

    Currently I am in the process to buy a house, so I won't have enough time to dispute with my previous insurance (BTW, according to my previous school, the insurance underwriter at that time went under).

    The CA never sent their bill or called before they reported to credit bureau.

    I have called the CA to ask them to remove the record upon payment and send me a letter stating that they would do it. It seems not a very smart thing to contact them now. Luckily I haven't paid yet.

    Last week I got the bill from the Collection Agency.

    what should I do? Any suggestion is highly appreciated.

    I had the same happen to me.

    I was in the process of building my house. PreQualified no problem. Contractor's start. Half way through, A CA from 2 years ago starts reporting. I never received a bill. I called them up, explained my problem (With a new collection of my CR, I lost about 60 points, almost a deal killer). They agreed upon payment to remove all reportings to CRA. I made a credit card payment, and rec'd a fax that day saying it was to be deleted. And they did! Good luck. I think medicals are the easiest to deal with, especially if you have a mortgage issue in the works.

    If you plan on paying this, you should pay it to the original healthcare provider and use Whychat's HIPPA letter.

    Was the fax sent before or after your payment? Was is a complete deletion, no mentioning of the collection accout at all? thanks in advance!!
