HI. Today we went to purchase carpet for my fathers home he wrote a check and the lady accepted it and then stated my fathers check was declined.

My father got embarrassed in front of al the people and then did not understand, I needed to step in and ask why.
The lady took us aside and gave us a denial slip from a co named telecheck.

I helped my father with the phone and we were told by a telecheck agent his check was declined but there is no negivitive information.

I explained to the telecheck person that this man has had the same bank for over 40 years (when the bank changed he stayed with them every time)
He has never in his 78 years written a bad check bounced a check or not paid a bill (his credit fico is over 850).

The lady on the phone stated maybe it is a new account. I explained again all I could and told her to call the bank and check his average balance.

She then stated it could be the check number. At this point people were looking and I was getting frustrated. I told her to send in writing why it was refused.

She said there was no reason why they just decided to not honor it.

I told my father and he was very upset and did not understand when he went to pay she asked if he could get cash because the amount was too much for the atm card.

We then had to go and drive 5 miles to a bank the bank cashed it no questions asked.

My father is 78 has a pacemaker, survived cancer lost a wife of 52 years and a bad knee, he in no way deserved this kind of treatment or harassment.

Can he sue this Telecheck company who rejected him for no reason???
And moreover who are they to decide who can use a check and who cant?

    Thanks in advanced

Why n ot speak to someone at Telecheck.
Also you say your Father has a 850 Fico, so that said you must have checked his credit reports lately? If not then perhaps he is a victim of fraud?
Does he have a housekkepper or anyone that comes into the home to supply him with meals or do the landscaping. I have knows a few elderly people that have been in a problem as thier *care givers or help* have stolen checks...
One other thing... Theo other day I went o my bank to cash one of my checks. I have been like your Father having the same bank even though it has gone into many other banks over the 25 years I have had the account.
My checks are in the 5 figures in numbers, and had a check in the glove compartment that was off by about 500 and the teller would NOT CASH THE CHECK FOR ME!!!! The only way I could get m oney ws for me to get a blank check fromo them make it out an dthen cash it and get the money.
The manager told me because it is so far out of sequence they could not cash the check!
SO perhaps that was the reason.
Order up some new checks for your Dad, and also go to his bank to talk over the problem with the manager.

Good Luck and tell your Dad we are sorry that this happened to him!
