HELLO THIS IS MY FIRST POST. I HAVE AN OLD COLLECTION 43.84 FOR A VIDEO STORE THAT IS CLOSED. THIS ACCOUNT IS NOT MINE. I SENT A VALIDATION LETTER TO THE CA AND WHAT THEY SENT ME BACK WAS JUST A PRINT OUT OF WHAT I OWE AND WHAT IT'S FOR. WELL HELLO I KNOW WHAT IT SAYS I OWE FROM MY CR! WHAT EXACTLY DO THEY HAVE TO SEND ME WHEN I REQUEST VALIDATION? SHOULDN'T THEY HAVE MY SIGNATURE OR SOMETHING SHOWING THAT I JOINED THIS VIDEO PLACE? OR IS THIS ALL THE NEED TO DO? I AM NEW AT THIS AND ON MY OWN HAVE RAISED MY SCORE APPX. 30 POINTS W/ ALL CREDIT BUREAUS IN JUST 2 MONTHS AND THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE NEEDED HELP. THANK YOU
It's all they have to provide if you accept it. Since this account is not yours, if it is reporting on your CR, dispute thru the CRA as not yours. I presume you never opened an account at this store. Also dispute again with the CA, indicating this account is not yours, you dispute it in its entirety, they are reporting erroneous information, and that the information they have provided is not adequate. Request the following: Name of party opening the account When opened Address provided by party opening account Phone number provided by party opening account Identification provided by party opening account (SSN, DOB, drivers license #, etc.) Copy of signed application Date of product loan for which they are collecting Product borrowed Identification provided by party borrowing Method of payment. If credit card, provide credit card number, name on credit card, and copy of charge slip. Copy of signed customer receipt for which they are collecting Date product was due back. All of the above would have existed for a legitimately opened account at a rental store. If they provide any reasonable subset of this information, you should be able to determine whether you are dealing with someone who has set up an account in your name, or whether they have misidentified you. Address or phone number will not match you, even if it is someone with a similar name. Or drivers license number will not be yours. If it appears that someone has opened an account in your name, file a police report, send them a copy, and demand that they provide all information available on this account. Also use the police report to get the CRA to remove the TL permanently. If they fail to respond in a timely fashion (say, 30 days), file a complaint with your state's AG. If they just remove the TL, or sell the account to another CA, file a complaint with your state's AG against both CAs, since they are not cooperating in your investigation of a possible identity theft.
Was this video store in the town where you lived at the time, or is it enough of a distance away that common sense says its unlikely you used it? About how long ago was the alleged transaction? Was the store a corporation, or a proprietorship or partnership? If the store is closed, is the legal entity that owned it still around?
i disputed it w/ CRA first, the verified, then i sent a letter to the CA. thats when they sent me a computer printout. so... since i know its not mine should i demand they send me proof such as signature, drivers license, etc..that i opened the account?
i've never even heard of the store. i asked some friends whol have lived here if they had heard of it. apparently it was a mom and pop store which is why it is out of business...yes it is in the same town that i live in and its about 3 years old. i didn't even know about it until i saw it on my cr reported by the CA
