Waaaaaah! Dang it! Now I've got TWO problems! First, I have not obtained any new accounts in the past year--I've been being good or so I thought. Because of this, Equifax claimed it could not generate a score for me when I tried to join Creditwatch. This came from a supervisor who told me that they can't create scores if there has been no activity in the last six months. Thing is, when I decided to order my credit report for $12.95, guess what? It came with a score! (a low score, to be sure, but a score nonetheless!) Now how does that work? Second, I disputed some items online and my PG report showed that those items are under dispute. I had hoped to give my Eq score a little temporary boost this way and apply for a card. Instead, when I tried to order a new report with a new score, I got an error that said that, while they could find my report, they couldn't give me my score! They could on one day, but couldn't two days later! What's worse is that a supervisor said that they can't generate a score so theoretically, if I apply for instant credit with someone who uses Equifax, I'll be denied, right? Has anyone had this happen before? I was told that I would have to establish an account and let it age 6 months before I will even SHOW a score! (I don't believe this, but it's what I was told.) Is there any way around this?
Find someone, a friend or relative, that will add you as an authorized used on their credit card account. Make sure that the account in question has a low balance and a perfect payment history. If it reports correctly - ta-da! - instant credit history and a score.
