    Hi,

When I pull my credit reports, the below are my lates... is there anything I can do about getting them removed? JCPenney was fully paid in 1999 and KeyBank was fully paid in July 2002.

    JCPenney - 30 days as of 8-1998, 6-1997

Key Bank Visa - Now Citibank - 30 days as of 8-1997

    Thank you very much,
    Allen

    Allen,

Although I haven't had any personal experience here, I've seen some threads about "goodwill adjustment" letters that have worked for members here. Try a keyword search for that.

You might also want to consider using www.planetfeedback.com. It's an excellent resource as well.

I got JC Penney to delete two 30 day lates with a phone call to customer service. I also had the account paid off and explained to the lady I spoke to that we were purchasing our first home. She was very nice and took care of it.

I tried the goodwill letter with my Firestone card on one 30 day late, also paid in full but they weren't as nice. Finally got it removed after three letters.

    Good luck to you!

    Welcome to the board Allen,

Is there ANYTHING you can think of that would provide them with a good reason to see things your way?

I got lates removed from Cap1 because I didn't get my bills. I didn't get my bills because you guy's didn't process my change of address properly. (Interestingly he never looked into it. I could have been lying about that, though I was not).

I think even those people who are empowered to make these decisions still need to be able to justify it. The Manager may WANT to help you but is powerless to do so just because you don't like it.

    See what I mean?

    :)

So it seems I should start with calling JCP? The acct was closed in 1998. Will customer service still be able to see it?

Or do I just dispute it and see what happens?

The reason why I was late was cuz I lost my job and was changing jobs. I moved back home for a while and never got the bill :(

    Thanks!

Needless to say then... you now have a different address than you had when you went late? If so just tell them you didn't get your bills. This is called a billing error. It's worth a try.

You'll want to read the FCBA at:

    http://www.ftc.gov/os/statutes/fcb/fcb.pdf

    Good luck.

I am sorry to keep asking...

So I start with calling JCP... if they wont do anything, then I dispute the late with experian?

    Thanks again,

    Allen,

Here's a thread from a few months ago in which I posted the version of the goodwill letter we sent to Citi back in December. If you decide to send one, be sure to customize it to your circumstances. This one is specific to ours.

And yes, it seems reasonable if that if Butch was able to get a couple of lates deleted from JCP by a phone call, it's sure worth a shot before disputing them.

Have you disputed w/ the CRA's yet? I always do that first, because it could just disappear, and then you don't have to worry about any of it. I'd say, almost 1/2 of my derogs fell off that way in my first round of disputes. I had a stubborn filenes late (32+ times 90+ days late) I disputed 2 times on each CR, and it always came back verified. I sent a letter via planetfeedback, with a sob story about getting the card in college, getting married, divorced, blah blah blah, and the next week all the lates were deleted, leaving a positive trade line. This was also a paid/closed account. I'm bad at calling the OC's and asking for deletions, so my way was much better for me, and it worked great. I highly recommend at least trying it. Can't hurt!

Is there anything negative associated with just disputing a late payment or a credit inquiry?

Meaning if I go in and dispute it:

    A. what do I say
    B. would JCP or Discover do anything negative to me?
    C. Would equifax or experian do anything negative to me?

Thanks a lot I really appreciate the help!

No, they won't "do" anything to you. If you haven't done it before, the worst that can happen at this point is that it will come back verified. I did all of mine online, it was so much easier, and they received it faster that way! G/L!!

    Allen,

Based on the questions you're asking, I think you really need to spend a little time studying the board and reading through the FAQ thread above.

You shouldn't be doing anything until you feel comfortable with what you're doing and why you're doing it.

In credit repair, patience is a virtue. A little time in study will pay huge dividends in your confidence and in your results in dealing with your credit issues.

    All the best!

I totally agree. You have to understand "why" you are doing something. I jumped in before I truly understood. Thank God I didn't screw anything up, but I could've, very easily! Patience is good, I just wish I had more of it. I seem to want it all done, and I want my report clean, NOW!! LOL We all know it's not that easy!!

If you go right to the top of the message board page, the very 1st post is the FAQ's. In the first thread is a link to some great info!!
