Hi. I posted regularly here about a year ago and I've been lurking off and on. Anyway, here's the deal: My wife shows a few unpaid collections for tiny amounts, collected by Accuchek, now Certigy, several years ago. We're talking TINY amounts, like $10.00 or less. We know that this info is wrong because: 1. How can you eat in a restaurant for $10.00 or less? 2. During that time frame, we would have used either our debit card or a credit card for a meal. 3. This is from an area where we haven't lived in several years, but go back and visit occasionally. They probably wouldn't have taken an out-of-state check, anyway. Equifax "verified" the items as accurate. We know better. What's next? Sent Certigy a letter? Which letter? Call them? Please help. Thanks!
saw this old post...figured id comment Certigy appears to be a bottom feeder, big time. they take checks which did not go through the first time and try to collect fees on them even though they were paid eventually. So they don't have a check to hold over you, just fees for them not going through on the first try. ie, you bounce a check...the retailer runs it through again and it goes through successfully. they appear to be affiliated with equifax in some way, which is probably why it gets verified so easily. Im sure equifax doesnt even attempt to verify these.
Very Interesting.... This happened to my mother. The check cleared the second time, but they are still charging her the fee. Is there anyway to get out of this?? Just curious. Thanks
