    Hi all,

I'm trying to help out a friend with a Capital One account. I told her to dispute the bad things on her CR as first not mine, and then never late... Well, after she did that for this Cap1 account it was not only verified, but updated from 120 days past due to CHARGE-OFF! Goes without saying, I'm feeling pretty bad right now.

I believe the original limit on the card was $500, but the bal due on the CR is around $1400. She currently has a company called "Tri-advantage" calling her several times a week, but hasn't talked to them, nor has she gotten anything in the mail from them. She thought that it was for a small medical collection, but now that Cap1 is showing chargedoff, I'm pretty sure its for them since TriaAdvantage works for them alot.

From what I've read, the best to be expected from Cap1 is an upgrade from r9 to r5 (which is where she was before my advice!) after payment. The CA (TriAdvantage) isn't listing anything with the CRA's, but they have pulled inquiries.

I'm looking for tips as to how she can get out from under this with the least $$ possible and also get the R9 to R5.

    Bunch o questions:

Does this CA typically not send letters? Just wondering why it's always a phone call and never anything on paper.

How much are they likely to be asking for now that Cap1 sent it to them over the $1400 Cap1 has listed with the CRAs?

How would she go about getting a 30% settlement offer?

Since the CA isn't listing with the CRA's, is there any way to get them on a violation to gain a little leverage?

    Thanks!
