Help with Capital One, etc.

    Hi guys,

I apologize if this has been covered...

I'm 23 years old and have had my capital One card for almost 2 years. I was originally preapproved, and they gave me a $500 limit. After about 9 months of full monthly payments, PayPal screwed up and double billed several purchases, but then reversed the charges all by themselves. Too late. The double charges took me over my credit limit, and capital One charged me an overage fee. I called and explained what happened, and they said "No Problem" and took off the charge. Several months later, I called to get a credit increase, and was told that the overage prevented me from getting an increase. They didn't care that it wasn't my fault.

Fast forward to today (almost another year later). I called to get a credit increase, and guess what? denied. I investigated why, and found that my mother (whom I had asked to pay my bills while I was out of town) missed the capital one payment (this was a couple of months ago).

Anyway, aside from those incidents, I've been a perfect client, paying in full every month. I'm considering just closing the account and going with another provider, but am concerned that:
-My credit report may be damaged now.
-I won't be able to get another card.

    Any advice?

    Thanks.

Should I request my credit reports before or after applying for a different card? Thanks.

OK, so I just pulled my credit reports...

    Transunion: 739
    Equifax: 634
    Experian: 735

I think it's being affected because I'm listed as an authorized user on my parent's cc, and they're carrying a >50% balance on their card...

How are those #'s in terms of getting another card?

Go to the "Who pulls what" that Psychdoc has at the top of this thread and avoid anyone in your area who pulls Equifax and you should be able to get whatever you want and tell Cap1 to drop dead.
