My credit report is showing the following:

    CREDIT PROTECTION ASSOC
Original Creditor: COMCAST CABLE COMM INC.
    Status: Paid,Closed/Collection account.
    Date Opened:11/2002
    Date of Status:02/2004
    Reported Since:02/2003
    Last Reported Date:02/2004
    Credit Limit:$1,730
Account History:Collection as of Apr 2003, Feb 2003

This one is so old I don't remember ever paying it. I do remember that they was some kind of dispute over whether I returned a stupid digital cable box...which I did. Anyway, what's my best course of action in getting this removed? If it isn't removed when I can I expect it to come off?

I've been a customer with GMAC for the past 8 years (2 leased cars and 1 recently purchased car). In the 8 years I have only missed one payment. The problem came when I got my last car. I traded my leased car in with excess mileage (total charges came to ~$1200). The dealer said that since I was turning it in and getting a new purchased car, which was financed again through GMAC I would not owe any fees. Obviously I have no way to really prove this other than the fact that I didn't have to pay the fees before I drove the new car off the lot. Now my credit report is showing this for the excess fees of my previous car (note I got my new car in Jan 08)

Experian is showing: 30 days as of Apr 2008, Feb 2008
Transunion is showing: Charged off account

What should my plan of action be on this one?

The collection was opened in 11/02, so you can assume the date of first delinquency was probably 1-3 months earlier (for this type of account). Looks like it will come off around 3Q 2009.

Thanks, jlynn. So should I bother trying to get it removed or should I just wait until it falls off?

Any suggestions on the GMAC account?

I think you should be patient and let it fall off. Thats if you are not in the market for a house, car etc..........

May as well dispute it. CPA is a fifty-fifty proposition even for us. Make sure you communicate with them and ask for validation under the Texas Finance Code.

As for GMAC, we have good luck with them through a contact. I would recommend contacting them through a goodwill communication.

I have had good luck in getting deletions when filing a BBB complaint. The owner is Nathan Levine, and his son is actually the registered rep, Steve Levine. His email address is stevel@creditprotect.com. The address is:
13355 Noel Rd. #2100, Dallas, Tx 75240, telephone number: 972-233-9614 and fax is 972-385-9601.

Also, Apex can you provide the name of the contact at GMAC for the goodwill letters?

Unfortunately, no, since it came through litigation and there was a non-disclosure agreement involved.
