I have a hospital bill that totals $2,376. It went into collections with North American Credit Services. They claimed that I couldn't make payments to them w/o the outstanding amount hitting my credit reports. Low and behold, even after I made a payment to them via phone, the outstanding balance hit my reports- not once, but twice! One for the full amount outstanding and one in the amount of $150. After only two mos., I received a letter from lawyers in Tenn. stating that they're now in charge of collecting the debt. They also added fees onto the amount, so I now owe over 3k. My question is- 1. do I call the attorneys and ask for a settlement? I'll offer between 35-50% of the full amount. 2. what the heck do I do about the two collections on all my credit reports now by North American Credit Svcs? I don't think they care any longer about the account. Any advice is greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
From the way it sounds you have 2 accounts in collections. If that is not the case you need to dispute the one that is incorrect and request validation. What fees did they add on to the account? I would request validation from them asking specifically the breakdown of the account balance, fees, interest. If they are adding fees make sure it's legal for them to do so.
