3 years ago my husband lost his job and we were seriously delinquent with all our bills, including mortgage. We found a buyer for the house and asked the lender for a payoff amount. At that time they didn't mention foreclosure, but referred us to attorneys for the final payoff. Long story short the attorney tacked on over $10,000 in fees before they would release the payoff amount as they were "beginning foreclosure proceedings". The mortgage was paid off including all the fees. Recently I applied for a carloan and found that my credit report is damaged as badly as if I had a foreclosure. The report states forclosure proceedings started below the mortgage. My carloan is 8% higher because of this. I disputed the entry, but the credit reporting agencies stated the account was verified. Ididn't dispute the whole account, just the foreclosure entry. I was never notified that foreclosure was going on, they were just playing games to get more money out of me, which they did. What rights do I have to get this removed? What would you do? Thanks in advance. Jenstart
have you contacted the mortgage company about their erroneous reporting? i would redisute the tradeline also.
The mortgage company has given me the runaround. No one seems to know who to talk to about the issue. They don't care since I am not a client anymore and the account has been closed. I don't know if a certified letter would help? What department in the company usually handles these issues? Collections? I thought handling the credit report would have been easier, but that didn't resolve anything. Jen
