I think Breeze works nights, but hopefully someone else can answer. Today hubby got in a wreck. He is fine! The weather here has been terrible and raining and tornadoes and etc. Anywhoo, he was on his way to auction with his car hauler loaded (4 cars) he slid off of the enbankment on the highway, trailer jackknifed and went through the cab. The ins. co (Progressive) has not evaluated the damage yet but we are quite sure that truck and trailer will be deemed totaled. My payment is due on the truck but the lender told us do not pay until we know what Progressive is going to do. She told us if they salvage them, do not make payment at all. My question is this. We owe half of what the book is on the truck, and owe nothing on the trailer. Will they pay the full value of each, i.e.; how does it work? Will they pay the truck off and we will receive a check for the rest, I do not want to be out of the equity on the truck, and since nothing is owed on the trailer, will they just pay us the full 15k book value on the trailer? We have never filed a claim before so we do not know how it works, and since I was at work today I did not get to talk to Progressive. Any explanation of how the ins works would be appreciated. TIA. Also is Progressive good about paying quickly, I do not want to make the payment (which is due BTW) if they are going to go ahead and pay it off but I do not want to be late either.

They should pay you the value of both. Normally they'll negotiate the value with you. Sounds like you know the values, that's good. They may try to give you less than the book value, they'll find things like more mileage than average, etc. Don't be afraid to dispute their arguments. When you come to an agreement, they should send the loan amount to the lienholder and the rest of the money to you.

Depending on your coverage, if he missed work he could be reimbursed for that time, even if he uses sick leave. If he's self employed it's a little harder.

Also, if he goes to the doctor to be checked out and you have medical payments insurance, his doctor bill will be paid even if he's OK. It's reasonable to get checked out.

I hope this helps. I'm leaving work now, may not see the board for a while. I'm having surgery Thursday, and don't know if I'll have time to check tomorrow. Then I'm sure I'll be out of it for a few days, anyway. If you want more information and no one else answers, feel free to e-mail me, but it may be a while before I see it.

    Good luck.
