I am helping my brother clean up his reports and he has 2 NJ DMV tax liens for a $100 from each showing up on his report. These are from 1997. How can I get more info about it and go about cleaning? Are these easy to get off the reports? It only shows the Docket numbers and the amount. Any help about this will help a lot. Thanks.

ASK FOR PROOF FIRST THAT THEY BELONG TO HIM...

What's the tax owed on or for?

two for the same amount from same year.... are they duplicates? I would request copies of them from nj dmv and would ask them if they verify with cra's and how it is done... clerks can be very helpful if you catch the right one.

Where does one go about finding out what this is for? Do you call the DMV or a courthouse?

Since it is a DMV lien, I would contact them first. I would get copies of both (?) liens and compare them to what is listed on the cr. If they do not have them, they can probably direct you to where you can get the information.
