Ok, I'm new to your forum, but can tell I'm in the right place. I need your expert help and advise!!!

My credit report is showing an open account with SEARS/CBSD for more than $9,000 opened in Feb. 2006. I signed a contract to obtain financing for window installation in my home, but 2 days later I called and cancelled due to finding out I was going to lose my job due to a company merger. However, this is still showing on my credit report as an open and existing account. Good news is I'm in good standing with the account, but have never made any payments or received any further information from them. There is no phone number on my credit report to contact anyone.

Since I've read they no longer handle the credit accounts, I don't know who I should contact to get this off of my credit reports.

Can anyone out there give me the company name, and/or the address phone number I should call or write to?

All your help would be greatly appreciated.

Is this showing as a $9000 balance, or as $9000 available credit?

Who did you work thru to open the account?

If the contract was cancelled, no work was done, and no windows installed, the contractor should not have been paid anything by the lender, and therefore you should not owe the lender any $9000.

If the account is showing as an open line of credit, credit limit $9000, but $0 balance, contact the lender to close the account, ask that they notify the CRAs the account is closed by consumer with $0 balance, and ask for a letter confirming that the account has been closed. Under FCRA, they are obligated to accurately report accounts as closed.

Sears credit card business was purchased by Citibank in 2003.
