When I was in college I ran up enormous amts. on ccds...then got married and husband helped pay them off. That was 10 years ago. Why are some still showing up on my credit report? How do I get copies of CR without spending an arm and a leg? How do I go about removing chargeoffs and late payments from 10 years ago? Don't they remove them after 7 years? Or do you have to beg in blood? Someone please help!!
You have to contact each credit agency and request an official form and stay on them about getting your credit cleaned up. I did this about 7 years ago and now it seems every credit card company in the US is after me to get their card! You can get a free copy of your credit report when you apply for credit and then get turned down. At least that's how I did it. I took me a couple of years of staying on top of my credit report to get it cleaned up, but it is now worth it and paying off. Good Luck and I hope this helps.
