I am in the process of applying for several jobs that are all moving along very quickly. The problem is that all of these jobs conduct credit checks and I have two charge-off accounts. I have just about enough money to pay these accounts off and am in the process of contacting both collection agencies. My question is, how long will it take for them to post these payments on my credit report, and can I just call them, arrange a payment, and that be it? Any info anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
The ONLY leverage you have is before you pay. I would contact them...BUT do NOT let them know you are desparate to have things done "quickly" ... AND do NOT admit to oweing the money, just tell them you wish to have the listing removed and are willing to work things out if they are. Arrange to pay in full in return for complete deletion of the listing...if they completely refuse to delete, tell them you are willing to negotiate a settlement on the amount in return for a FAX that states you paid in full, as well as an immediate UDF sent to the 3 CRA's stating you paid in full. You can get things one way or t'other but you only have the leverage before you pay...so negotiate it now. -Peace, Dave
