Maybe some of you remember my quandry with my friend who indicated to me that she has really bad credit and wanted to improve it. I wasn't sure what to do about helping her since she is still not responsible with her bills. Well, we got a copy of her report and she initially thought her score was in the 300's, but it was 488. I didn't realize it but she has faithfully paid on her car loan for over a year with no lates at all. That gives me a ray of hope! It's her ONLY positive, other than an AU on an inactive account. with a CL of $100. She has several accounts in collection, ranging from $48 - $741, with 5 of them being $55 or less, 2 credit cards, one charged off for the $741, and one open, but past due 120 days. I'm advising her to bring current her open account with Cap One (I can't believe it's still open being 6 months behind??), for about $100. I think she should call them and try to work something out. Thus far, she's been avoiding them. The account will be 2 years old and I think it would be a good thing for her to retain it since this could be a positive for her eventually since she seriously lacks positive tradelines. Now, she has a paid tax collection and a paid medical collection on her report. Since they're paid, I'd like to see if we can get those removed, although I know we have no leverage since they are paid in full. My question is which would be better - writing the collection agency and asking them to delete it since it's been paid or disputing it with the CRA? I know this is a long shot since they are paid, but it's worth the try. Also, her medical collections that are around $50... do you think they'd accept less on those, with owing such a small amount to begin with, and agree to delete them or is that asking too much? Or should we take a chance and just dispute them with the CRA? Any thoughts or insights would be welcomed. Ozzy.
medical collections, try disputing first. start with the oldest ones. if they are verified, send procedures letter, you can then send validation letter to ca and see what happens. with the paid tax lien and collection, i would also try a simple dispute first. since the collection is paid the ca may not verify at all. I know paid tax liens can stay on for 10 years, so i would try disputing as not mine and see what happens
Try disputing tax lien as "Never showed X amount to X tax authority". Chances are the dollar amount is wrong. cariba
What do you mean (X) amount.... If the dollar amount is incorrest on your report can you dispute it for this reason?
