I have a AMEX question. (Roni is alittle lost)

You two were first to get AMEX back in the spring as I can remember. What have been your experience with them. What cards do you have now? I know you both started with AMEX green.

I sincerely despise AMEX, with a passion. I wanted to change cards and upgrade to another Amex product. I spoke to the MCS department, Amex retention. She promised me that I was upgraded to the Amex Gold Card. The recorded the entire conversation.

I called back 2 days later to check the status: DECLINED.

So they closed my Amex Green and left me without an Amex product. I was PISSED!!!

I called them for 4 straight days and got no where.

I sent letters via PFB, got no where.

So now, I am without an Amex product. I am glad that I see how they operate now instead of in the future.

I hope that your experiences are better than mine.:)

And they still owe me money!!!!

Never late always paid before the due date.

I'd alert the FTC and BBB. AMEX would hate to have a mark against their reputation.

Oh my goodness Reshod! I missed that. Boy, from what people say around here I thought AMEX was 'all that". Thanks for the tips though.

Roni, here's another "AmEx is not all that" story.

There used to be an online retailer called "CyberRebate.com"... Maybe you remember their many online ads. If you don't remember CyberRebate, their deal in a nutshell was that they charged outrageous prices for stuff, held the money a few months while they ostensibly invested it successfully, and then rebated the entire purchase price back to the consumer. Their 100% rebates were pretty popular until earlier this year when their house of cards fell down and exposed them for the apparent Ponzi scheme they really were.

Anyway, of the four largest brands of credit cards (VISA, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover), only two ultimately stood behind their customers 100%. Guess which two. Hint: It wasn't American Express or Discover. Lordy -- you'd have thought that the "premium" brands, American Express and Discover, would have been right there with world class customer service. Unfortunately not. It was plain old VISA and MasterCard that has refunded about $30 million to consumers so far. The national governing boards of VISA/MC are backing up their subscribing banks in the matter. Here's an active community of "victims" where you can read further:

    http://communities.msn.com/CyberrebateRebateRecoveryAlliance

Bottom line: If you used VISA or MasterCard, you had to demonstrate that you dotted every "i" and crossed every "t" correctly, which included properly filled out and submitted rebate forms as well as a subsequent DOCUMENTED attempt to return the merchandise, etc., but if you did everything right, they stand behind you. On the other hand, if you used American Express, you were SH#T OUTTA LUCK, as they say. Same with Discover. :(

PYRAMID SCHEME...AND ON PFB, EVERYBODY SAID THE OTHER CARD (AMEX/DISCOVERCARD/VISA/MC) GAVE THEM A REFUND EVEN IF THE DIDN'T!!!
I PERSONALLY DON'T THINK THE CREDIT CARD COMPANIES OWE THE PEOPLE WHO FELL FOR THE PYRAMID SCHEME ANY MONEY!!!

    JUST MY OPINION...

I bought 3 printer cartridges at BEST BUY. They had a rebate coupon by mail, if I don't get that money, DO YOU REALLY THINK AMERICAN EXPRESS should pay me??? I DON'T.
It was at BEST BUY and it was a CANNON offer.

As soon as I saw the PYRAMID SCHEME...I saw a RED FLAG!!!

werd. I'm still using my yummy delta skymiles card all over the place. can't wait for the platinum to arrive any day now.

I love how their payments are posted same day. Makes all the other nuances worthwhile.

Their online site sucks major butt. Oh well can't win em all!

I believe Momof3 posted about her infuriating experiences with "all that" American Express, lol. I'm wondering if AmEx is really and truly "all that" or, rather, it's simply our wish and our fantasy that AmEx would meet the "world class customer service" standard. :)

    Hey Roni:)

First off congrats on the Delta card, see what did I tell you LOL, now we are even:)

Well I have had the green for 8 months, at the 7 month mark they offered me the blue card and I took it. Then this past month they offered to change my green card to a platinum card, I was happy but I declined.

Their online site is not the most glamorous, but it is very easy to use and they post payments the same day you pay them even BEFORE they take the money out of your account. I have had no problems whatsoever with their credit card division.

As Doc mentioned their membership banking is another story............. But I am very happy with my overall credit card experience.

I have been away for several days and it appears all hell has broken loose LOL.

Ok, there IS something I really LOVE about my AmEx card. I like the "Private Payments" option on the web site. If you've not come across this, you should give it a try. Basically whenever you want to buy something online, you go to the AmEx web site, click on Private Payments, and get a temporary AmEx number to use instead of having to give Tom, Dick & Harry your real AmEx number. It's a one-time use number that would be of use to nobody else even if some hacker managed to acquire it subsequent to your purchase. Even better -- the Private Payments service is available with any AmEx card, can be used an unlimited number of times, and there's no fee.
