Hi Guys, My wife and I has a checking joint account. While i was in the process of changing the checking acct. over to Washington mutual, she wrote a check (by the former bank) and it bounced ($23.00) so now it is in the hands of acu-check...Will that have a negative strike on my credit??? our credit??? or her credit???. p.s i am ready to pay it
My advice would be to call both banks and ask them how they report. I doubt that one bounced check will go on credit unless you don't pay it right away. Just call and find out what the policy is for the banks and the place that is holding the check.
When did it bounce? While there is no guaranteed answer of what debt will show up on your reports (Chexsystem included), a simple bounced check will NOT show up...unless you bounced it and never knew about it so it never got paid. -Peace, Dave
TONY 123 As far as I know, a bounced check won't show up on a credit reports. But, bouncing a check can create a black mark in Chex System's database than can make it difficult to open a bank account for five years. You could call Check Systems or pay to pull your own report. Below is the contact information: "Chex Systems has a on line site at www.chexhelp.com from which you can order your report. You are entitled to a free report if you are a resident of Colorado, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Vermont, receive public assistance, are unemployed and plan to seek employment within 60 days, or believe your consumer file contains inaccuracies resulting from fraud. If none of the previous conditions apply and you live in Maine its $3.00, in Connecticut its $5.00, and in all other states its $8.00. If you want to write them their address is: Chex Systems Consumer relations 12005 Ford Road Suite 600 Dallas TX 75234-7253 Or you can call them at 1-800-513-7125."
While I was in the Navy, one of my checkbooks were stolen. The person was writing it to all sorts of restaurants. They wrote about close to 15 checks total. About 10 of those went on my credit reports. It was hell taking them off, even with proof that I wasn't even in the United States when the checks were written (in Colorado). Finally, after fighting for about 5 years, all the checks are removed from my credit reports. So, yes, unfortunately checks do go on the CRAs. One check was for only $23.00 but with the bounced check fee and collection agency fee, it was around 73.00 on the reports. Janet
