Hello! My name is Mike and I will be here for the next two years or so. Hopefully it will not take me that long to fix my credit but if it does I hope I make some friends along the way with some of you wonderful board members. Well my credit problems started the first time I had to do laundry in college. I signed up for 8 credit cards to get an Animal House T-shirt and a Homer Simpson T-shirt. I guess I really did not want to do laundry. Those two free T-shirts cost me around $4,000 in wasted spending. I have read alot of the newbie stuff but like ususal I have a few questions. I am currnetly a member at www.creditexpert.com and I can get my three bureau credit report for $34.95....Is this a good price or should I get the reports from somewhere else? I have 17 revolving accounts, 3 chareoffs for a total of $180.00, and 2 student loans ($6,000 of my dads and $11,000 of mine). My Experian score is currently 572. I have about 17 addresses with them on file. So I guess my questions are.... 1) Where is the most cost effective way to get all three reports? I can not get them for free since ihave not been declined within 60 days. 2) Will you all be my friends?
If you have the extra couple of bucks, I'd recommend getting your first reports separately from each of the three big bureaus.
Alot of views but not alot of new friends. Well you all better get used ot me since I will be here for awhile. I really am a nice guy!!
First thing... welcome... 2nd... dispute everything... I don't care if it is legit or not... sent the envelope with the read reciept... validate.... ect... some of the bad will get taken off by doing this... next... pay for deletion... THROUGH WRITING in about 2 yrs... you'll be alright
I agree that the best thing is to get individual reports from the three bureaus. Some of the information isn't on the online reports. What state do you live in? Some states require the bureaus to give you a free report every year. I live in Maryland and it's one of the states that does. Save the $35 for now. Go join PrivacyGuard (PG) for the 2 month trial for $1. That will get you started. After you do that, e-mail me (click on my name, it will take you to a page where you can e-mail). I'll give you some more tips about PG. Sometimes it takes me a few days to get to e-mail, so cut me some slack! Welcome to the board, and yes, we'll be your friends. As jlynn says, be careful what you wish for. Also, don't be surprised if you don't always get a reply. Bump your post back to the top occasionally, a lot of us have families, jobs, do things on weekends, etc.
