Hi-long time! Can I mess with this?

Hi everyone! Hope all is well. I used to be a semi-regular a while back and I dropped out to take a break from credit mayhem. Now I am back with a small issue and as always, I turn to you all for good advice.

I have a small collection bill - around $31 - that popped up on my credit report a month after my BK was discharged, for services that were rendered before the BK. It is supposedly for a doctors fee but I always paid my copay at every office visit. I called and told them I didn't know what this was for, but offered just to pay for delete. No dice. Then I disputed and it is showing up as included in BK, which it wasn't. My score needs all the help it can get and I'm sure this tiny thing is weighing it down. I am willing to pay just to get rid of it but if they won't play then they can pound sand. Do I have any help under FDCPA or BK laws?

    Thanks -

Did they send you a statement, and does it show your co-pay and insurance payments and adjustments?

What does your insurance say about what they paid, and what co-pay should be due? They keep records, too. Their EOB should be consistant with the doctor's bill.

If the debt is not valid, and attempting to collect it is contrary to your insurance company's agreement with the doctor, that is a quick way to make it go away. If some amount is owed, but the amount originally billed is not correct, that is still leverage to pay for deletion, as the bill was in error.
