Well, it's been a while since I've been around. Last I was in this neck of the woods, I had just bought my new truck, had a couple years good credit history behind me, got quite a few negatives removed through Junum, and through my own lawsuits of all 3 CRA's. All of that good fortune was the result of my hard work, and the information I obtained from this board. I left with a new truck, 11k citi plat, 4k providian plat, 3200 cap 1 plat, 2k best buy. All low or 0 balance. Now, they are all almost maxed, with the exception of a citi smart with 0 bal, best buy 0 bal, and a cap 1 with 0 bal, which I just closed. I am 14k in debt on cards. When I went truck shopping 20 months ago, a promotion was imminent. I gambled on it, and bought the truck. I lost. Promotion never happened, and still has not happened. I have found out this week however, I am being promoted the minute my boss returns from heart surgery in 2 weeks. The slot is being held for me. It will be about a 12k year increase. At any rate, as the promo never came, I wound up depending on the cards to see me through what surely was only going to be a few months. Well, again, 20 months later, here I am. Minimum payments are in the $400 range, and I just went over the limit on citi by 6 dollars, as they decreased my credit line because I'm looking riskier. Cap 1 had a false 60 day late on one of my cards for a few months before I caught it. It's off now, with many apologies from them, but the damage is done. Most of my creditors dropped my credit line to balance owed, and will not budge now. First time ever over the limit for me. Will this hurt me on credit report? My credit to date is still fine, never late on any of my accounts, but balances are high. Well, that over the limit woke me up this morning. I now know what I have to do. As hard as this is for a 36 year old single man, I gave 30 day notice on my apartment, am putting my things in storage, and am moving in with family for 6 months to pay my balances WAY DOWN. Without the cost of rent, I'll have about 1700 a month to throw on the cards without being too hard on myself. So, looks like I need to start hanging around here again to get my financial head on straight. I almost contemplated BK, but after suffering with bad credit for 7 years, and the 2 years of hell to get it all cleaned up and get myself established again, I cannot destroy it now. It is not too late for me to save myself with no damage to my credit. It may be hard to sleep at night, and I'm feeling physically ill over the hit to my self esteem. Hopefully in 6 months, I'll feel alot better about this decision. Right now I feel like dirt. Stupid dirt at that. I knew better, but couldn't help it once it started to snowball on me. Thanks for listening, and I'll be seeing you more frequently again now..... Any words of advice greatly appreciated. danrs
sh*t happens. I learned long time ago to never believe anything you hear from an employer. Swallowing your pride and moving in with the rental units to pay off your debts is probably the best thing to do. The extra $1700 a month will make a big dent in your debts. Things will get better, be sure to read up on the post concerining breaking/terminating apartment leases so you won't get screwed.
Yeah, I know, it does happen. It is strange how it came on so suddenly in just the last week just how truly screwed I am at the moment, and didn't see it coming. I do realize I can't complain too much, as I'm still employed, well paid, and have an out. So many of us don't, as I didn't when I first ran into problems 10 years ago. At any rate, after reading up per you suggestion on the "breaking leases", I've got a question..... I've been in my apartment for 6 years. My employer previously owned the apartment, and recently sold it. I only had a $250 deposit with them as an employee perk I guess. Now, since I was there so long, there shouldn't be much they can charge me for, but I'm sure the $250 will go fast. Can they go after me for more than the $250 they have? I'm on month to month, for the past 5 years, and I gave 30 day notice today, and will pay the entire 30 days. If the apartment isn't clean to their liking (which they never are it seems), broken toliet, etc., can they come after me and mar my credit if I ignore them? Reason being, this new landlord is all about the bucks. First time I met the new manager was for a rent and deposit increase 2 months early, and 2% too high. Second time was to get additional deposit for new garage door cards as the old system broke. Both times they were shoved in my face, and she turned and left. Pissed me off no end.
I'd do what the other poster recommended, clean the place spotless, and I do mean spotless, and video tape the whole thing for evidence. Also document the problems you've had with your new landlord. Finally when it comes time to move out, try and get her to sign something saying the apartment "passed inspection". Don't know if that is even an option, but cannot ever hurt to try and CYA. What gets me is how do you determine damage v. actual wear and tear?
See if your landlord will do a walk-through w/you before you return the keys. Get everything in writing!!! Of course, you already now that... Good luck! Hope everything works out for you. Sounds like a great plan

You should not have bought the new truck until you had been on the promoted job long enough to get an inkling of the stability of the new position. Any chance you could sell the truck and step down to an older less expensive one? There are some really nice decent dependable used trucks on the market at reasonable prices if you know how to deal for one. 2*This is another bad thing about the reporting and scoring racket.
