The citi guy suggested it probably wasn't worth it to apply for a different card, just get the limit increase since there's no real advantage of Platinum over Illumina

    1. Yes, it was me. I applied for an AA Silver, was denied based on the CO and asked a credit supervisor to override the denial. As of today, I am on my 5th Citi card since the paid CO.

    2. Yes, if the CO was very long ago, you paid in full, AND your reports look good now, you have a good chance of them overriding an automatic denial. You also have a good chance of being approved period b/c you may not be on their blacklist, since the CO was so long ago.

    3. With AmEx, their records last forever but they are the most forgiving bank I've seen, once you pay them. As long as you pay them IN FULL, they will issue you a new card (provided that credit looks good) a year later. One poster here even wrote that he applied, and got denied for the outstanding balance, paid the balance over the phone to the credit rep and got approved right then. She didn't make him wait a year.

    4. According to GEORGE the Citi BDD is still working.

Actually as I recall the payoff of citi was a settlement they offered. And it was quite some time ago, at least 2-3 years I think. I sooooo want to apply for this citibusiness card (great credit now) but I'm chicken. I don't like rejection.

Did I tell you that I was approved for the MBNA LOC too (thanks Marci!) and the guy I talked to this a.m. told me to call the 800# on the back of my pp card when I get it and ask to have it rolled into my card. They still act like the quantum is something we have to graduate to, even after giving my husband a 25k limit to start his mbna pplus. (turkey!) When I told him he was approved for 25 he thought I meant hundred lol!!

Interestingly when I called the credit analyst they wanted to know what I did, what my husband did, was any of that commission, what were our titles yada yada. What did I WANT the cl for?? (peering over glasses perched on the end of his nose...) I just told him I didn't NEED it, I just wanted to build a relationship with MBNA because of my relatively short credit history (5 yrs instead of the 10 they seem to expect) and they seem to like that answer. Anyone have a better one?? :) (that might have gotten me a bigger line?)

MArci you inspire me......how (or why) are you on FIVE Citi cards?? Do you just keep one at a time or what??
If Citi BDD still works then should I do that and then go for business or what order should I apply in?

(Haven't heard from my amsouth guy yet today. Will keep you posted.)

I see. I don't consider 2-3 years "quite some time ago"; I thought you meant more like 10 years ago. At any rate, the credit supervisor told me that since the CO was paid 3 years ago (prior to my conversation with her), she would override the denial. So, again, you stand a decent chance.

There's no harm in trying. Your credit profile does not represent your value as a human being. And you might suprise yourself. One of my favorite posters here had a tagline that stated, "You don't get what you deserve; you get what you negotiate." These are good words to operate by. I certainly got a lot more than I deserved. I got 10 prime accounts, almost all through reconsideration requests.

Congratulations on the loc. If it is revolving, it should help you on your utilization ratios (just don't use it up). As far as what to say to have gotten higher than $25K (!), I don't know how to advise you. As for myself, when I spoke with the MBNA analyst, I simply told the truth. It works just as well as anything.

I only have one Citi account open at a time. I opened multiple cards to get to the 0% BT offers they were promoting:

    1. My first card offered 6.9% BT, and the second 3.9% BT. It was only the third card that gave me 0% for 12 months.

    2. Now, to qualify for a 0% BT offer for 12 months, repeatedly, I kept having to apply for new cards. Because I am on Citi's blacklist, I do not get the pre-approvals that others get, with which I could apply those pre-approvals to current accounts. So, every time I want to extend my 0% BT offer, I have to apply for a new card. I take inquiry hits for this, but due to my "new twist on goodwill" (look this thread up here) letters, I don't take the new account FICO hits.

It's up to you what kind of Citi card you want. The Platinum Select/Dividend series are good for offering the 0% BT promotions, sometimes for as long as 15 months. I'd grab one of those offers before they dry up.

I guess I mean quite some time ago as opposed to this year. I apologize if I misspoke.

The 25k limit was for my husband's pp mBNA. I got 7500. I alone applied for the loc and they only gave me 2500. That was the line I was wishing for a little more on. It is not revolving which is why I called back to ask about rolling it into my pp to make 10k. Again, they didn't have issue with income or score, just that I only have about 5 years of credit showing.

I am weighing the idea of applying with citi for BDD, or just try citibusiness first. Hey could there be a BD triple??? :)

Re: Re: high limit low apr?

I see. Okay, the short answer is yes, it is quite possible for you to turn all of that into a 10K credit card and even a Quantum. The long answer is:

MBNA will have to turn the installment loc ("option") into a revolving loc ("reserve") before the loc can be added to your Platinum Plus card. The if you choose, you can convert the Platinum Plus into a $10K Quantum. Doing this is not a cakewalk, but with persistence it will happen.

A year ago MBNA's "tele-sales" department was the place to call to get the loc converted into a credit card. But a poster here named "Saar" experienced resistance through tele-sales. He eventually got it done, but he doesn't post here anymore. I recommend that you register at www.creditboards.com to ask "Czar" how to turn the option loc into a reserve loc into a PP card.

Or, you can look up my posts on MBNA or tele-sales on this board and call the numbers and try your luck that way.

By the time you get the option loc added to the Platinum Plus, you may be so worn out that you forget about the Quantum. And as it is there is nothing too special about the Quantum unless you travel overseas a bit.

With CreditNetters, anything's possible. Trust me. We have broken all the rules of consumer finance!

Don't ask me how, but dh got an offer for the platinum UP TO $7500, I figured wth why not? Maybe he'll get a $1000. A few weeks later it came in the mail for the entire $7500. My mom is convinced they accidentally added an extra 0! I tend to agree w/ her, because his credit royally sucked a year ago (the card is 1 year old last month)
