Hi! Are you using DSL? I received a CD in the mail from BellSouth today offering the service for $49.95 per month in my area. What are your thoughts? Pros v. Cons. Thanks. CardKid See ya @ The Masters!!
I have cable internet access and I love the speed.I also like not getting booted off.It is well worth it to me. If your online alot then i would say it is definitely worth it..... PS-I don't know about bell dsl.
I average about 400 kbps - same price as pacbell and verizon. Once its hooked, its reliable - mine has been hooked for about 2 yrs. later - dogman
I have Roadrunner too.I had to have my modem replaced, but it was not a big deal. The only time i can't get online is when the cable is out, and that is not often........
Love my RoadRunner. Thought I'd save the bucks a few months ago and within two weeks I had called them to bring it back. That is NOT the way to save money...lol. L
I have a file that opens up the Cable Modem to full potential. 1) Go to a couple of websites and check speed. 2) Install small file to maximize modem. 3) Go back to sites and recheck speed. Unbelievable difference. If anyone wants the file, just email me.
I disagree with Cable being more reliable than DSL. I have DirectVDsl and it's blazing... I get 1.5Mbps Down and 265Kbps Upload..... The price is 39.95 per month for 6 months then 49.95 after.. This is only if you sign a 1yr contract.... If you don't sign then the normal price is 49.95 NoContract... Fast easy install of DSL gateway... I've had them for 2yrs, it use to be Telocity but Hughes bought them and it became Directvdsl. Cable is nice also, but if there a lot of people on in any area you'll receive sluggish speeds. The more people online the less your speeds are.. One other good thing with DirectVDsl is they provide you a "Static IP Address" No one offers that free with your service. All other DSL providers charge you extra to have a Static address, they provide a Dynamic address... It comes in handy if you want to host websites or if you're a gamer.... If you want to Tweak your system to ultimate performance with DSL or CAble the best site is www.dslreports.com no others come close. They have a tweak tool Drtcp which will allow you to tweak your system to ultimate performance......
I have Ameritech DSL and have had it for two years now and CANâ??T go back to any dial up anytime, period. I despise Ameritech with every fiber of my being, but I canâ??t live without my DSL. Their error allows us to network the entire house for the cost of home DSL. We pay $49.95 a month and we have DSL internet in every room in the house, how sad are we. Just ran a speed test at www.dslreports.com and came up with this: Test running.......... ** Speed 619(down)/133(up) kbps ** (At least 12 times faster than a 56k modem) Logged result. Finish.
Hi NCGolfer, I couldn't find your email address on this site. What is the name of the file ? I also have a cable modem and the speed is much faster than 56K, but I don't think I'm getting 400 Kbps.
Hello Everyone. My email is yitbos1987@yahoo.com If you email me, I will send you the file to optimize. Here is the latest test for my cable modem. 1154 Kbps
I like testing at this site. http://www.bandwidthplace.com/index.html I have @home Cable net and average from 1.3 to 2.8 Megabits per second. Never say Cable is better than DSL or DSL is better than Cable. It just depends on where you are at. Its true that cable does share bandwith with neighbors on the local loop however I've found that most systems are balanced at a level where you can still get good throughput at peak times. Most of the time I do better than the 1.5 Mb/sec so I'm happy. My cable cost me $40 a month. In a few years we will see FIBER to the Curb widely implemented. Then we will have up to 1Gb/sec worth of bandwith into our homes. Imagine... being able to order any movie you wanted at any time, being able to have realtime Video Phones like on the Sci-Fi movies and enough bandwith to hook up 1000 pc's to the internet.
Test running.......... ** Speed 734(down)/78(up) kbps ** (At least 14 times faster than a 56k modem) Logged result. Finish. THIS IS BAD ISN'T IT???
Raw speed: 469333.33 bits per second (469K) Faster than what I thought, but wish it was around what most of you have.
