Re: DSL, Cable Modem or Satellite? I have SBC DSL, it has been very reliable and the price is right, 29.95/mo if you have their phone service as well.
Re: Re: DSL, Cable Modem or Satellite? That's a great price. What part of the country are you in? CardKid
Re: Re: DSL, Cable Modem or Satellite? I'm in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. I think Verizon may be offering something similar, and Comcast Cable sends stuff in the mail all the time but they haven't matched the SBC deal as yet.
Re: Re: DSL, Cable Modem or Satellite? I have had both. DSL through Qwest and cable modem through Comcast. Both prices were within a couple of bucks of each other, but the service and performance were lightyears apart. I constantly had to call the Qwest tech support (and I am pretty darned computer savvy) and the transfer rates I was getting with DSL were 1/10th of what I got through cable. DSL for me wasn't really any better than AOL, and they wouldn't even let me STAY CONNECTED, which is the point! They would "time out" my connection every two hours. DOWN WITH DSL!
Re: Re: DSL, Cable Modem or Satellite? I have earthlink DSL for about 2 years now and I love it. No problems whatsoever and never get booted off. Tried verizon DSL for about 5 minutes and it sucked. We have cablevision not comcast and since I don't like them I won't even consider a cable modem, especially since they charge you PER COMPUTER hooked up to service. With dsl we networked all 4 computers and we can all be online doing different things. Why not give earthlink a call and see if they are in your area, I believe they have a special going on now too.
Re: Re: DSL, Cable Modem or Satellite? I'm in the DFW area and I use Comcast. I've had SBC DSL and it rocked. It was my first preference, but was not available in my area. So I went with Comcast and I'm VERY happy. I tested at www.dslreports.com and I got 1894 Mbps down and 254 Kbps up. That's not bad at all considering Comcast's website states that you can get speeds of up to 1.5 Mbps. I'm blowing that away! Now to find a tweak program and see if I can top 2k. Oh yeah...I'm paying $19.95/mo for 3 months, then it jumps to $42.95.
Re: Re: DSL, Cable Modem or Satellite? This is strange...the past week or so I've seriously been considering DSL, and getting by hook or crook. You guys are right, once you have it dial-up sucks. We got it at work and I love it. Anyone in Chicago? I'm on the south side and want to hear some experiences.
