I have requested validation twice to a coll. company. The second time I did tell them I would report them to the BBB. Which I did. I received a response letter from the BBB- the collection co. attached printouts from the dr. along with all medical diagnoses and they wrote the SS# of my dh on one. Is a collection agency allowed to disclose that kind of indepth information to the BBB (and why would they not of just sent it to me when I requested in 3 months ago)? Thanks for any help. P.S. 2 of the bills were addressed to minors (which may explain why I did not receive them)

Sounds like a serious violation of the Doctor/Insurance Co/Patient privacy priviledge in the first place if the doctor or insurance co. revealed any dignosis and treatments to the CA. And apparently the CA revealed this info to the BBB.

And revealing full SS #s is another privacy violation.

That's what I thought too. How should I proceed with this though. I'm not sure how to answer the BBB, and I want to nail the CA. Thanks. Also, how can they address them to minors? Thanks again.

Tell the BBB that the CA isn't entitled to that kind of information, and for that matter neither are they.

Then you report the CA to whomever it is that enforces HIPAA in your state, and if I were in your position, I'd be reporting the Hospital as well.

Then I'd sue them (but I'm litigious like that).
