I was approved last nite for a home depot card w/ $2500 limit. Since their card is through citigroup...do you think it likely I would be approved for a citibank CC? I'd like to do some BTs, but don't want to apply if I'm not likely to be approved. Score is in the 680 range... thanks
Do you have any negative trade lines (at least in PA on TU)? When I applied for any type of Citi card, I've gotten the reason of 1 derogatory trade line.
I do, but they are all (the negative lines) at least 3 years old. So, I have no negatives in the last 3 years. I guess I figured that since Citi issues the cards for Home Depot, they would use similar (or even the same) criteria for their CCs), but I don't know how accurate that is.
My only negatives are 5-6 years old, so that tells you how strict they are being for their 'real' cards. In general merchant cards are easier to get.

I managed one "real" card (PS) a year and a half ago with them but have been turned down three times for another one (various non-derogatory reasons)...they are VERY tough to qualify for, no matter what your FICO score happens to be (they use their own internal scoring model to qualify applications).
The 1 adverse account reason even has either PAID or UNPAID, so as long as any negative trade lines are there, they will more than likely decline.
citi has tightened the ropes since the ole BDD days. they are not so forgiving for their base product lines. the other citi is even less forgiving. you can try but i'd wait for the derogs to drop b4 wasting an inq. not so easy these days with such low interest rates and promo rates.
Citi has been very easy to qualify for, imho. The most brutal has to be mbna or amex, imho. I got a invitation to apply for the ps card, replied and was approved. I have to call to combine if they let me. Might make me wait 6 months though.
